Businesses blast new 'Red Routes' in Rainham after trade plummets

Rainham business owner Steven Goddard says new double red lines and loading bays mean his shops are no longer visible, causing a sharp loss in trade.

00:08 There's no 30 minute bay allowed for potential customers.

00:13 So all we get on a multiple times a week for multiple periods,

00:18 certainly over 20 minutes, they're taking longer than 20 minutes,

00:22 we have great big massive HGVs that are here delivering to nutmegs,

00:29 delivering to Pizza Hut, delivering to greedy banker.

00:33 And obviously when they're here, no one can see us.

00:39 You can't see and that's for, could be 10, 20, 30 minutes, maybe 40 minutes.

00:44 Some of the HGVs here have been up over an hour.

00:48 From the time this was installed, we found that where we would have

00:54 customers coming in from say 4.30 up to 7 o'clock, literally it was someone

00:59 coming and turning the tap off. We're down 30% in numbers and probably

01:05 in financial terms probably £1,000 a week.
