The far-right German party has fallen short in its longtime stronghold, auguring ill for its performance in the European Parliament elections.

00:00The Thuringian local elections on Sunday did not see the right-wing AFD party achieve the
00:07expected landslide victory. The Christian Democratic Union won the elections with preliminary
00:13results of 27.6%, with the AFD in third with 26.4%. But it's not over yet. The party could
00:21become the strongest force at the run-off elections. The Thuringian AFD has been classified
00:27as right-wing extremists by authorities and is currently under observation.
