'Kids are seeing [hardcore pornography] before they're having their first kiss,' the minister said. The federal government continues to debate whether to raise the age of social media use in Australia.

00:00 I've been concerned for a long time about the fact that our kids are learning sex education
00:05 from violent and degrading online pornography.
00:08 And the next frontier is just around the corner.
00:12 AI means that you can create deep, fake pornography to harass and intimidate.
00:18 Our kids are learning really bad relationship styles from seeing the violent, degrading,
00:25 misogynistic content that's being pushed at them on social media.
00:29 Pornography that includes choking and anal sex before they've had their first kiss.
00:33 Is it any wonder that again today we see another report that says that teenagers are at increased
00:42 risk of being sexually assaulted by another teenager, often someone they're in a relationship
00:47 with or have been in a relationship with.
00:49 These numbers are exploding.
00:51 And if we don't get a handle on it, all of the good work of years of sexual assault and
00:58 domestic violence advocates, governments, everybody who's been involved to try and reduce rates
01:02 of violence against women, all of that good work is put at risk because of the algorithms
01:08 controlled by social media giants overseas pushing this violent and degrading content
01:16 onto our kids and affecting relationships between men and women.
01:20 We actually see that this generation, Gen Z, are less likely than previous generations
01:27 to believe in gender equality.
01:30 We are actually going backwards.
01:32 And the biggest influence here I think is what they're learning online.
