00:00 Brisysunac has just announced a general election. We were waiting to find out when it would
00:04 be, with many predicting it might be later on in the year, but now we know that it's
00:08 just around the corner.
00:10 This general election on July 4th will look different than others in the past for people
00:14 all across Wales, with voter ID being necessary for the first time. The biggest change though
00:19 will be the difference in constituency lines. After the boundary commission was put into
00:23 action over the last few years as part of a regular review, the total number of constituencies
00:27 and therefore the total number of MPs in Wales has gone from 40 down to 32, a reduction of
00:33 20%. Critics say this means less of a voice for Wales in Westminster.
00:39 The UK government say the reason behind the change was to make the size of constituencies
00:43 consistent around the country, with most of them now having around 70,000 voters living
00:48 within them. Every constituency in Wales will change except for Anglesey, which has protected
00:53 status so will remain the same. Some will disappear entirely like Arfon, while others
00:58 have been rejigged.
