'It makes you dizzy': Türkiye's 'mad honey' that can knock you flat

Its fans swear it can cure heart palpitations, bad stomachs and even impotence, but every year hundreds of people end up in hospital after gorging themselves on Türkiye's "mad honey".

The substance is made by bees taking pollen from a subspecies of rhododendron found in Türkiye's Pontic Alps, which contains a neurotoxin that can slow the heartbeat and pack a hallucinogenic punch.

Beekeeper Bayram Demirciler is adamant his honey is safe, saying "it's not good to consume too much" and "has never" made him sick, despite being diabetic.
