Alright, today we are going to talk about, 11 common myths and surprising facts about
00:14
seasonal allergies. When it comes to seasonal allergies, there's a lot of misinformation out
00:18
there. Let's break down some common myths and facts to help you understand what's true and
00:22
what's not. 1. Desert climates cure allergies.
00:26
Myth. Grass and ragweed pollens are found almost everywhere. While you might get temporary relief,
00:30
you could soon develop reactions to new allergens in your new environment.
00:34
2. Cut flowers usually trigger allergies. Myth. Surprisingly, very few people have
00:39
allergic reactions to a bouquet of flowers. The real culprits are pollens from trees,
00:44
grasses, and weeds, which you typically wouldn't put in a vase at home.
00:47
3. No pollen at the beach. Myth. While the beach can be a more
00:51
comfortable spot for allergy sufferers due to generally lower pollen counts,
00:54
grasses near the shore and ragweed pollen that can travel up to 400 miles can still cause issues.
00:59
4. You can predict bad allergy days by pollen counts.
01:03
Fact. Pollen counts measure the amount of pollen in the air over a period of time.
01:07
High counts mean you're more likely to experience symptoms,
01:10
so checking the pollen count can help you plan your day.
01:12
5. Local honey can help. Myth. The idea that local honey can combat allergies is a popular belief,
01:19
but most allergies are caused by different types of pollen than those found in honey.
01:22
So while honey is delicious, it likely won't help your allergy symptoms.
01:26
6. Your seasonal allergies will go away as you grow up. Myth. Unfortunately,
01:31
most kids do not outgrow their seasonal allergies. Studies show that the majority of children with
01:36
hay fever still have it years later, although some may experience an improvement in symptoms.
01:40
7. Rain washes away pollen. Fact. Pollen counts are typically lowest right after heavy rains and
01:46
on chilly, damp days, making it a great time for allergy sufferers to go outside.
01:50
They peak between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., especially on hot, dry, and windy days.
01:55
8. Mold allergies strike only indoors. Myth. Mold spores can be found almost anywhere,
02:01
including outdoors on soil, decayed leaves, and rotted wood. Mold is especially prevalent in
02:05
damp weather, and allergic reactions are most common in the summer.
02:08
9. Hay fever comes from hay. Myth. Despite its name, hay fever isn't caused by hay,
02:14
nor is it a fever. It's typically caused by pollens from trees, grasses, and weeds,
02:19
as well as mold spores. While rural areas can trigger more reactions, growing up on a farm
02:24
might actually reduce the likelihood of developing allergies.
02:26
10. No worries if no childhood allergies. Myth. Allergies can develop at any age. Even if you
02:33
didn't have allergies as a child, you can still develop them as an adult, especially if you move
02:37
to a new area with different allergens. Additionally, childhood allergies can
02:41
sometimes reappear in adulthood. 11. Allergy shots may help. Fact.
02:45
Allergy shots can significantly reduce reactions for some people, especially those with severe
02:49
allergies or multiple triggers. There are also sublingual treatments that work similarly.
02:54
Sticking to the treatment plan is essential for the best results. Understanding these myths and
02:58
facts can help you manage your seasonal allergies more effectively. While there's no cure-all
03:03
solution, knowing what to expect and how to handle your symptoms can make a big difference
03:06
in your daily life. Thanks for watching, Sunbro. Please subscribe, like, comment,
03:12
