Are the similarities between the universe and the human brain deeper than we thought?

00:02 To anyone who has looked closely enough, the universe kind of looks like a brain.

00:06 But now researchers from the University of Verona and the University of Bologna say there

00:10 may be more similarities in their structure than what meets the telescoped eye.

00:14 The universe is thought to have at least 100 billion galaxies, made up of an intricate

00:18 web that links them together.

00:20 Similarly, the human brain has a network of neurons, about 70 billion of them, an equally

00:24 complex web of data-delivering tendrils.

00:27 What's more, in both of the independent systems, the connecting filaments account

00:30 for about 30% of its mass, while the passive areas, i.e. the brain's gray matter and

00:35 the universe's dark matter, make up the other 70%, which the researchers say could

00:39 mean extremely different physical processes may converge to incredibly similar, albeit

00:44 complex, organized structures.

00:46 Adding to both systems, connection points were similar as well, with the researchers

00:49 concluding that each part of both the brain's and the universe's structural parameters

00:54 were more akin to one another's than to other parts of their own respective systems.
