Virginia School Board Votes to Restore Confederate Names of Two Schools

The Shenandoah County School Board in Virginia voted to restore the Confederate names of two schools - Stonewall Jackson High School and Ashby Lee Elementary School. The names were removed in 2020 after the board voted to condemn racism and affirm its commitment to an inclusive environment. Residents who asked the board to consider restoring the names argued it was wrongly done in 2020 without public input. Restoring the names could cost over $300,000 to change uniforms, equipment and signage.
