00:00Pushing sort of 10,000 people down here, and that's a few thousand in the water as well.

00:07Yeah, it's got to be quiet, it's awesome. And how long have you guys been lifeguards for?

00:10I'm 11 years.

00:1111 years?

00:12Yeah, a long time.

00:14This is my second year.

00:15Second year.

00:16Yeah, second year with the Ironman.

00:17Moose didn't really get that in, so she's been very fast-tracked.

00:20Fast-tracked.

00:21Yeah, she's good as gold.

00:23And what got you into lifeguarding? What was the appeal?

00:26I finished uni, I did a biomedical science degree, and sort of trying to find my feet with what I want to do more long-term,

00:33potentially paramedic science. I think working for the RNLI is an amazing step towards that,

00:39particularly with the RNLI values, they are to be dependable, trustworthy, courageous.

00:44It's such a good charity to work for, kind of a foot in the door with first aid training, as well as obviously still enjoying...

00:51There's a lot of skills to be learned, isn't there?

00:53Absolutely.

00:54And the other line is to pull you through life.

00:56Do them good.

00:57I was just saying, making a point of seeing the young guys and girls doing CPR,

01:02it's such a crucial skill that goes missed unless you're in this sort of environment.

01:06We need to get it more accessible for more people in urban areas or wherever else that might not be taught that sort of thing.

01:13You hear more and more about how important it is for someone to be able to see them straight away doing CPR.

01:18Helps you put the fibulares everywhere.

01:20Well, this is it. You can now get on your phone and find out where the fibulares are, which is a huge deal to help people.

01:27What got you into lifeguarding?

01:28I actually did for sure, I've said that.

01:30Did you?

01:31Yeah, yeah, when I was six years old.

01:33And then did that, and then progressed, and then my brother did it, and then kind of got me a foot in the door.

01:39So I've done it, I've followed it in for like two years, and here I am 11 years later.
