Seventh Shelter Down: What’s UNHCR’s Part?

This series of photographs documents the demolition of my seventh shelter by the Police and Municipality, events before and after that incident outside the UNHCR office on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, and the aftermath of my detention.

Contrary to claims of my shelter's safety, the municipal team's ongoing presence and their heavy truck suggested imminent demolition. Despite inquiries, officials gave unclear promises regarding their departure, with a vague timeline, suggesting possible property confiscation and destruction—a deceptive tactic with the refugees here.

My numerous requests for legal authorization regarding the demolition of my shelter and seizure of my property were met with elusive replies and derisive, intimidating conduct by the Police, clearly indicating the absence of a judicial mandate or formal documentation for their actions.
