Council given money to improve and fix potholes

Local authorities across Teesside have been given a share of £8.3 billion to spend on improving roads and fixing potholes.

00:00So look, I've come here to have a look really, to see on the ground the effect of the extra

00:07money that we've made available to councils, and in this part of the world, mayors, that

00:12we got from cancelling the second phase of HS2 and reallocating £8.3 billion of that

00:19across the country to do road improvements over the next decade, and that's making a

00:24real difference here. It's given the council confidence to have a proper, to continue their

00:28resurfacing programme. They don't have to hold as much money back now because they've

00:32got confidence in that long-term programme, and what they can do is more road resurfacing

00:37like we see here, and less reactive filling of potholes. So you get better roads, more

00:42efficient use of taxpayers' money, so you get more for less. That's exactly what the

00:47Conservative government is about, and it benefits people here in Hartlepool, and, you know,

00:52based on what I've told my council and by the Member of Parliament here, Gill, it's

00:56delivering on the ground for her and the people she represents.
