South Australians gather for Anzac Day memorials

South Australians have commemorated those who have served for their country. From North Terrace to the New South Wales border, communities gathered across the state to pay their respects and remember the fallen.

00:00 Across South Australia, crowds gathered as the sun rose to remember lives lost or changed

00:07 forever by war. It was a day to reflect for all generations.

00:15 I am always happy to wake up at four o'clock in the morning and come out and remember the

00:22 people that did save our country and helped us live the life that we have now.

00:27 I think that that sacrifice can be forgotten. So it's only two events a year that we ask

00:33 people to think back and remember all that sacrifice that was made.

00:40 In the CBD, Chair of the RSL Anzac Day Committee, Ian Smith, says it was an impressive turnout.

00:48 It's more than we've ever had since COVID. So I just think it's going from strength to

00:52 strength. People are really appreciating what we're doing and that's heartwarming. That's

00:57 why we do it. So I'm really glad that so many people have come out today.

01:01 For families of current service people marching today, like Archer and Aisha, it's a proud

01:07 day. We're here to support the people that saved

01:11 our country. It's really special for me. I feel really

01:13 proud. After the solemn commemorations of the morning

01:17 services, it's a chance to take part in the more light-hearted activities of Anzac Day.

01:23 For some, it's an opportunity to share memories and build camaraderie.

01:28 Because you get to come and catch up with old friends. I've got a few old friends that

01:31 you only see once a year. So it's really good to catch up, see what's been going on and

01:35 keep those connections from when you're in service.

01:39 Along the River Murray, people gathered at Kulkurna Station over the border in New South

01:44 Wales to pay their respects. While in the South East, people fared a cool

01:51 morning to see a flypast over the ocean. Commemorations from across the state.
