00:06 The services that they had used from Pallion, Hilton, Cox Green, Penshaw, Fence Houses and
00:13 other stations were about to end.
00:16 Britain's rail network was facing huge cuts and it meant an end to scenes like these at
00:22 South Hilton station where passengers were getting off, at Fence Houses where the workers
00:28 were taking in the daily haul of parcels and Penshaw where Terence O'Connor was in the
00:34 signalling box.
00:37 It's a reminder of a time gone by and so is this view of Fence Houses station with Lampton
00:43 Dee colliery behind it.
