00:18 Until Fallout 4, we'd never seen the Great War with our own eyes.

00:21 But that game opened with the bombs falling on Boston as people descended into Vault 111.

00:26 To bring everybody up to speed, the TV show also opened with the war itself.

00:39 As rich people gather to watch television, Janie Howard notices a mushroom cloud blossoming

00:46 Cooper briefly thinks it's a fire before the penny drops.

00:55 Everybody runs for their lives as atomic fire strikes Los Angeles, with bombs erupting in

00:59 every direction, dosing Cooper with enough radiation to turn him into a ghoul.

01:10 Our three leads meet early on as they all arrive in Philly, a small town somewhere in

01:24 The Chief wants Wilzik because the Brotherhood does, the Ghoul wants Wilzik because there's

01:27 a huge bounty on his head, while Lucy just wants to find her dad, which involves delivering

01:31 Wilzik into the arms of Moldaver.

01:38 The Ghoul cements his status as a new iconic Fallout character by triggering a huge shootout

01:43 with everybody trying to claim the bounty on Wilzik's head.

01:53 He even holds his own against Max when he arrives in Titus' stolen power armor, which

01:57 is certainly impressive.

02:00 Arriving at Vault 4

02:05 Lucy still has an idealistic view of the Vaults, while back in Vault 33, Norm is slowly unraveling

02:10 the truth about Vault-Tec.

02:12 Fans of the games will already know that nothing is as it seems where Vault-Tec is concerned,

02:16 but Lucy learns this along with the franchise's newcomers.

02:25 The first clues that something is wrong in Vault 4 are the strange mutations the inhabitants

02:30 have.

02:31 A human Cyclops and people with extra ears and noses aren't the standard mutations people

02:34 in the Wasteland get, and she begins to investigate.

02:41 It's one of the show's funniest moments, it's no wonder we saw a bunch of Vault 4

02:48 scenes in the trailers.

02:54 The Ghoul Wakes Up

02:55 After seeing Cooper ride his horse through LA as the bombs fall, we don't see him again

02:59 until the end of the first episode when he rises from the grave.

03:12 This is the first real introduction to mutants we have in the series, though other notable

03:16 mutant races like the Super Mutants don't appear as the Ghoul is awakened.

03:25 It's a classic Western moment as they try to bargain with him and Cooper, now extremely

03:29 jaded and cynical after 200 years roaming the wastes, delivers one liner after one liner.

03:43 Fallout's West Coast games have always taken inspiration from Westerns and the Ghoul's

03:47 entire character is an homage to that.

04:01 The Raiders

04:06 The Wasteland is a dangerous place and there are plenty of groups who want to break into

04:10 the Vaults to make use of their safety and the luxuries they provide.

04:17 This is what initially appears to have happened in the first episode, though we won't spoil

04:21 what's actually going on.

04:29 Vault 33 is part of a trio of Vaults and they're exchanging dwellers with Vault 32 to maintain

04:33 genetic diversity, one of these dwellers is destined to marry Lucy.

04:37 It's not until much later though, after they've tried to tie the knot, that she realizes he's

04:41 a raider after her Geiger counter reads him as being radioactive.

04:53 A gruesome fight breaks out between the dwellers and the raiders.

04:57 Cooper's Commercial

05:02 We see Vault-Tec information reels and branding throughout the games, with Fallout 2 opening

05:06 with a Vault-Tec video explaining what life on the surface will be like.

05:10 But it was fascinating to finally see some Vault-Tec propaganda in live action as Cooper

05:14 becomes the company's public face because of his wife's job as an executive.

05:26 He takes us through Vault 4 and introduces us to a group of scientists who will be in

05:30 charge of the Vault.

05:41 Of course, we later find out that this doesn't go well for them, which is hardly surprising.

05:45 We also learn that even before the war, many people were suspicious of Vault-Tec.

05:52 Number 4.

05:53 Snip!

05:54 Snip!

05:55 In exchange for the mysterious yellow liquid Cooper needs so that he doesn't turn feral,

05:59 he decides to sell Lucy to a group of organ dealers living in an abandoned super-duper

06:03 mart.

06:04 Initially, she thinks she's there to receive medical treatment and is greeted by a surprisingly

06:14 friendly Mr. Handy robot named Snip!

06:16 Snip!

06:17 voiced by Matt Berry.

06:22 Though he repairs her hand with a new finger, he then announces that she's going to serve

06:26 an entirely different purpose.

06:39 Lucy is able to defeat Snip!

06:40 Snip! and then use a syringer, a gun you can craft in Fallout 4, full of a Braxo drain

06:45 cleaner to bargain her way to freedom.

06:47 Number 3.

06:48 The Meeting

06:49 In the final episode, we learn the truth of how the Great War started.

06:52 According to the show's interpretation, it was begun by America's large corporations,

06:56 summoned to a sinister meeting by Vault-Tec's executives.

07:04 They met with the heads of other recognizable companies in the Fallout world, Westec, Robco,

07:09 Repcon and Big Mountain, to decide that actually, total nuclear annihilation is going to be

07:13 more profitable for them than allowing peace negotiations to go through.

07:28 Vault-Tec also distributes control of its vaults among these companies to conduct their

07:31 twisted experiments.

07:41 Viewers will recognize Mr. House as the face of Robco, but also Frederick Sinclair representing

07:45 Big MT, a deep cut from New Vegas' DLC.

07:58 Number 2.

07:59 The Gulper

08:00 Our first taste of Fallout's notorious mutant fauna was when the Yao Gui attacked Titus

08:04 and Maximus.

08:05 But a more interesting mutant appears later, the Gulper.

08:08 Gulpers appeared as enemies for the first time in Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC, but here,

08:12 they're much more formidable.

08:23 This mutant axolotl initially appears when it attacks Lucy and steals Willsieck's head,

08:27 which leads to the ghoul using her as bait to lure it out.

08:32 They don't manage to retrieve the head at this point, with Max and Thaddeus arriving

08:35 soon after to track the same thing.

08:37 It attacks them and they manage to defeat it, though another Gulper later appears in

08:41 Vault 4.

08:58 Number 1.

08:59 The Final Showdown

09:07 The final battle is between the Brotherhood of Steel and LA's remnants of the New California

09:11 Republic as Lucy simultaneously tries to deal with the leader, Muldeiver, in exchange for

09:16 her father's life.

09:21 The charge is led by Maximus, who's been forgiven by the Brotherhood for Titus' death.

09:25 We've had plenty of vintage needle drops throughout the series, borrowing licensed

09:29 tracks from the in-game radios, but this one hits different.

09:35 The Brotherhood outmatch their enemies with advanced armor and weaponry, and battle in

09:39 slow motion, and we finally get to see what the Knights are capable of in large numbers

09:43 setting the stage for Season 2.
