Government rushing laws to make it easier to deport detainees

Cross benchers and refugee advocates are furious that the federal government is rushing legislation through parliament to make it easier to deport immigration detainees. Around 150 detainees were released last year after the high court ruled it was unlawful to keep people in indefinite detention where there is no real prospect of being able to deport them. But the new laws are being described by some as dangerous and unnecessary.
