New restaurant, Banana Tree opening in Gunwharf Quays

00:00 Hi my name is Danny, I'm the General Manager of Banana Tree located in Gunwulf Quays in Portsmouth.

00:07 Tell us a little bit about the story behind Banana Tree and how excited are you that it's now opened up to the world?

00:14 So Banana Tree had humble beginnings 30 years ago in a small cafe called Street Walker in Mainvale in London

00:23 and it's developed into the restaurant you see today.

00:26 There are about 20 branches of Banana Tree currently and the company I work for are looking to expand all over the country.

00:33 It's a very very popular restaurant and everywhere a new site is opened it is done very well and it's been very popular with the public.

00:43 The buzz around the city has been absolutely amazing.

00:46 I've seen news articles from the Evening News published on Facebook,

00:50 the amount of people who are tagging their friends, we need to go here, this looks amazing, can't wait for it to open.

00:55 And just general people walking past while we've been in the restaurant the last week and a half training,

01:00 feedback from the customers of Gunwulf themselves saying "oh we're going to come back next week and try you".

01:06 It's really exciting and just the fact that there's nowhere, not another Banana Tree anywhere close to us,

01:14 the nearest ones are located in London and the fact that the people of Portsmouth are aware of the brand is very exciting.

01:21 Excellent, so what is it that makes this particular brand exciting? What's on the menu and what's on the drinks menu?

01:28 So, probably the most exciting thing on the drinks menu, two for one cocktails, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

01:36 All different kinds of cocktails, all different kinds of spirits used in them and just come along and try it basically.

01:45 I can't sell it enough, so popular and also what sets us apart from other restaurants is everything's cooked fresh,

01:54 all our ingredients are fresh and everything is amazing.

01:58 There are so many popular dishes, we have speciality dishes, all kinds of curries, Pad Thai, Katsu Curry,

02:06 obviously is probably the most well known of any of the dishes.

02:10 We're currently running a promotion where we're offering a thousand free Katsu Curries to a thousand people,

02:16 so look out for that in the future.
