Australia have cancelled their t20 series against  Afghanistan over Taliban’s restrictions on women in sport. We take a look at the story, and the situation that the Australian cricket board have faced.

00:00 A second Australian men's cricket series against Afghanistan in as many years has been postponed

00:08 due to the country's poor record on human rights for women and girls.

00:12 Australia had already cancelled the one-day international series to be played in the United

00:16 Arab Emirates in March 2023 due to a marked deterioration on the treatment of females

00:22 in the country.

00:23 And it was hoped that a three-match series would be given the green light to take place

00:28 in August this year.

00:30 However, it is the third time Australia has refused to play Afghanistan since the Taliban

00:35 regained control of the Asian nation in 2021 and immediately imposed restrictions on female

00:41 participation in sport.

00:43 The government's advice is that conditions for women and girls in Afghanistan are getting

00:48 worse, a statement read.

00:51 For this reason, we have maintained our previous position and will postpone the bilateral series

00:56 against Afghanistan.
