00:39 On Saturday evening, authorities gave an evacuation warning just 15 minutes before molten rock

00:44 began soaring from a three-kilometre-long fissure on the southern Reykjanes peninsula,

00:49 just 50 kilometres from the capital.

00:53 Despite initial concerns for a crucial pipeline, barriers have been successful in steering

00:58 the lava away from infrastructure, including a power plant and a fishing town of some 4,000

01:03 residents.

01:04 "The rate of lava flow is getting lower and lower it seems like and the barriers that

01:09 were built around the town, they are diverting the flow around it.

01:13 Most of the flow is going east of the town towards the sea so it looks like the barriers

01:19 are really doing the job they were designed for."

01:22 The eruption was the seventh on this peninsula since 2021.

01:26 Before then, the volcano had lain dormant for eight centuries.
