00:00 Wildfires are continuing to spread across the Texas Panhandle.
00:04 As of this afternoon, there were four active fires, including the Smokehouse Creek Fire,
00:09 the largest fire in Texas state history.
00:12 The blaze has burned more than one million acres and is 37 percent contained.
00:16 Hot and dry conditions as well as high winds contributed to the fire's spread, but the
00:21 fire risk has now thankfully been subsiding.
00:25 So we are talking about some better weather to fight fires.
00:30 We are getting in on a little bit more moisture coming back into the region.
00:34 You can see that flow kicking through, winds dying down.
00:37 All of this is contributing this week to at least lesser of a fire threat.
00:41 It's not to say that it's not there.
00:43 It still is in some locations.
00:45 You can see the Smokehouse Creek Fire containment 37 percent, more than a million acres burned.
00:50 So we are still watching that one.
00:52 The good news is once we get the containment up above 50 percent, it's a lot better for
00:55 some of these fires.
00:56 So the Windy Deuce Fire, Grapevine Creek Fire, it's not to say that they're not a threat.
01:00 They certainly are, but at least we've seen that containment go up above 50 percent.
01:05 High pressure in control for your Wednesday means we're still quiet.
01:08 We're not overly windy, which is some great news for those that are still trying to work
01:12 on those fires and get some containment.
01:14 Otherwise, quiet weather in places like Houston.
01:16 Temperatures in the mid-80s.
01:17 Little Rock looking good in the mid-70s.
01:19 Lubbock also holding on to the 70s.
01:22 Another storm system works in though on Thursday.
01:25 And here's the problem.
01:26 It gets a little bit windy with this storm system.
01:29 Most of the moisture is going to be east initially with showers and thunderstorms.
01:33 So we're not going to be talking about a lot of rain in the Texas Panhandle, but we will
01:36 get rain elsewhere through Texas and some of that actually could be some pretty strong
01:40 thunderstorms.
01:41 So we'll watch for that in Dallas.
01:43 Temperatures there in the upper 60s.
01:44 Lubbock staying dry back into the mid-70s.
01:46 New Orleans, you're still quiet as we wait those storms to work their way east.
01:50 And they will do that throughout Thursday afternoon into Thursday night.
01:54 Some of which could have isolated tornadoes, potentially some large hail.
01:58 So you want to watch out for that.
01:59 And then wetter times come for Friday as we talk about heavier rain throughout the southern
02:05 US.
02:06 So some good news there.
