Wakefield Rhubarb Festival 2024 took place this weekend - celebrating with delicious rhubarb recipes and activities for the whole family.

00:00 Rhubarb, rhubarb, whether you love it or hate it, most of the rhubarb eaten in this country is actually grown here in Yorkshire.

00:08 It became a popular ingredient in the 18th century and now it still is amongst people who like a bit of rhubarb crumble, a bit of rhubarb pie.

00:18 Well now you can get rhubarb gin, rhubarb jam, lots of rhubarb stuff because obviously Wakefield where I am today,

00:26 which is home of the Rhubarb Festival, is actually part of the Rhubarb Triangle.

00:30 Yes, that's the triangle of Wakefield, Rothwell and Morley. It's about a seven mile, nine mile even, triangular space.

00:40 And most of the rhubarb is grown in sheds and it's because Yorkshire has some of the best soil to grow as red friendly friend.
