Should historic buildings like The Ringway Centre be preserved?

Following an arduous battle to save it which forced extra consideration by the planning committee, the decision to demolish the Ringway Centre on Smallbrook Queensway has been given the go ahead. Should we preserve such historic buildings?

00:09 now. And if that would mean more homes could be built, then I think that could potentially

00:16 be a really good thing, so long as they're not homes for people who are very well off

00:19 and actually would meet the needs of people who don't earn a fortune.

00:31 right and I think myself it's a good idea with them restoring these old buildings, they

00:38 need to preserve them for future generations. It depends on how the style of the building,

00:48 how it's going to turn out. And also they should preserve a lot of things, actually

00:56 the pubs as well, which need to be preserved and opened. But no, not really, because I

01:04 don't go to the city centre much anyway, I stay around the area.

01:09 I think they should keep them all, it's part of our heritage, it's not pulling down this

01:15 church over here, it's ridiculous. Keep it like it is, there's such an influx from other

01:20 countries these days, it's difficult to isolate what it is to be English anymore. I think

01:26 it's very, very, very important to have those people reminded of what the hell they're coming

01:44 still mourning the loss. I don't think anyone else was, I think everyone loved to see the

01:49 back of the old library, but the old brutalism, just like the buildings next to the New Street

01:59 station, those old brutalist buildings, developers want to demolish those I've heard, and yeah

02:10 you know the ones on top of snobs, all those buildings. So cherishing some of the buildings

02:20 we've had in the past, it's really, well as you can see around Mosley, it's good, I just

02:36 The Royal Estates Group finally secured approval from the City Council following backlash from

02:41 companions against the proposed development. The plans are subject to a legal agreement

02:48 that 20% of spaces are considered affordable. The triple tower scheme of over 1,750 flats

02:56 are set to be built over the next 13 years.
