00:09 the Beverly Hills 90210 alum died at age 58 due to complications from sudden cardiac arrest.
00:16 According to the spokesperson, the actor was found unresponsive by emergency personnel who performed CPR and defibrillation
00:25 in an attempt to save him. However, their efforts were unsuccessful and Gell was placed on life
00:31 support for several days before he was pronounced dead on January 16th. A release provided to E!
00:38 News reads, "The family has no reason to suspect the cause of his death was anything but heart
00:43 failure. David will be remembered for his love of acting and his absolute passion and dedication to
00:49 his friends and family. He possessed a unique quality that made everyone feel special in his
00:56 presence." Gell's mom Mary adds in a separate statement, "We are extremely touched by the
01:01 outpouring of love from David's dedicated fans and colleagues. We are grateful for all the support
01:07 received during this very difficult time." News of Gell's death was first shared by his sister,
01:13 Katie Colmenares, who wrote on Instagram on January 20th, "There's barely been even a day in my life
01:19 when you were not with me by my side." Calling the actor her "wingman" and "best friend," she continued,
01:26 "I will hold you so tight every day in my heart, you gorgeous, loving, amazing, fierce human being,
01:32 missing you every second of every day forever. There will never be another." A native of Florida,
01:38 Gell made his on-screen acting debut on a 1990 episode of Growing Paints. He went on to appear
01:44 on Doogie Howser, M.D. with Neil Patrick Harris and Murder, She Wrote with the late Angela Lansbury
01:51 before he was cast on Beverly Hills' 90210. Gell initially played a bellhop named Tom in 1991,
01:58 but returned to the beloved teen series three years later as a love interest for
02:03 Shannon Doherty's character Brenda Walsh. Following his 90210 stint, Gell starred on
02:08 the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles. He appeared in over 200 episodes during his tenure
02:14 as Dr. Joe Scanlon. Outside of TV, Gell held credits on the 2002 movie Bending All the Rules,
02:22 as well as 2004's Perfect Opposites and 2008's The Belly of the Beast. He also did voiceover work for
02:29 the 2019 video game Blacksad Under the Skin. In addition to his mom and sister, Gell is survived
02:36 by his son, Gautier.
