The health secretary has outlined plans to ban the sale of disposable vapes in the UK, bringing about the first "smokefree generation." Victoria Atkins warned vapes are being "cynically marketed towards children". Atkins said that the ban is part of the prime minister's plan for the country to "make long term decisions for a brighter future." Report by Covellm. 00:00 We know that they can be a very useful aid for adults who are trying to quit smoking,
00:07 but we also know that they are being cynically marketed towards children.
00:12 And so what we want to do as part of our smoke-free generation is to ensure that 15-year-olds and
00:19 children who are younger than that today will never be able to buy cigarettes legally from a shop,
00:24 but also that they're not exposed to the gateway to nicotine addiction, which is vaping.
00:31 We do not want brightly coloured, you know, flavours that are clearly directed at children or
00:37 that are susceptible to children liking a lot, attracting children. We do not want those flavours
00:43 being sold. We're very clear about that. And as I say, that hand in hand with our ban on disposable
00:48 vapes really then means that we are cutting down on this problem that mums and dads are telling us
00:54 they worry about with their teenagers in particular. I think this is part of the Prime Minister's plan
00:58 for our country. You know, we have a plan to take long-term decisions for a brighter future.
01:04 This is absolutely part of this and it is a big change.
