Mass turnout during Germany's weekend of anti far-right protests

On Saturday, national authorities recorded a total of some 300,000 participants in protests across the country.

00:00 Germany's weekend of anti-far-right protests continued on Sunday with

00:04 hundreds of thousands taking to the streets across the country.

00:07 Demonstrations were called in around 100 locations across Germany from Friday

00:12 through the weekend including in Munich and Berlin on Sunday. The afternoon

00:17 protest in Munich had to end early due to safety concerns after 100,000 people

00:22 turned up. Meanwhile in Berlin 60,000 people rallied to denounce the far-right

00:27 and the growing popularity of the right-wing AFD party. Significant

00:31 turnout was also recorded in Cologne by the authorities who reported that tens

00:35 of thousands of people marched while organizers estimated the number to be

00:40 70,000 people. The demonstrations come in the wake of a report published on

00:45 January 10th saying that right-wing extremists recently met to discuss the

00:49 deportation of millions of immigrants including some with German citizenship.

00:54 Some AFD members were also present at the meeting.
