00:00:03 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07 Hard hats, lunch pail, steel tool, boots.
00:00:09 Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:12 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:18 Can I pull the John?
00:00:19 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20 What did we say?
00:00:21 What did we do?
00:00:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:26 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:30 All right, folks.
00:00:34 Another one in the books.
00:00:36 Another one in the books, this time over the border,
00:00:40 up in Toronto, the Celtics with a win over the Raptors 105
00:00:44 to 96.
00:00:45 A little entertaining game on a Monday.
00:00:48 Happy MLK Day to everybody watching from home.
00:00:51 And Celtics, this was a good one from,
00:00:55 I would say, from start to finish Bobby.
00:00:58 They allowed the third quarter comeback,
00:01:00 as they've been known to do, but not to the point
00:01:03 where things got out of hand and they started to reel.
00:01:05 Again, this one without Jaylen Brown,
00:01:07 who missed out this game.
00:01:09 They're calling it a right knee.
00:01:11 You can call it rest, whatever you want to tell yourself
00:01:14 to get to bed tonight.
00:01:15 But Jaylen Brown missed this one,
00:01:17 and we'll hope to see him back out there Wednesday.
00:01:19 But they didn't need him at the end of the day.
00:01:21 No Brown, no problem.
00:01:23 Led by the guards.
00:01:25 How about that tonight?
00:01:27 Leading scorers for the Celtics, Derek White and Drew
00:01:30 Holliday with 22 apiece.
00:01:32 Holliday added seven assists.
00:01:33 I thought this was one of his better games,
00:01:35 not just because of the stats, but I just
00:01:37 think with Jaylen Brown out, you look for guys like Holliday,
00:01:40 who we've talked about in the past, who's got that--
00:01:43 probably more of a sacrifice that he's
00:01:45 made this year than the other guys in the starting lineup.
00:01:48 And he sees an opportunity to step in when there's a vacancy,
00:01:51 if you will, and he fills it.
00:01:53 And that's, I think, the mark of a championship team,
00:01:56 when guys are stepping into these roles on a pinch,
00:01:58 on a moment's notice, and they're able to overcome that.
00:02:01 So Bobby, just to start with you, because you are--
00:02:03 or you were--
00:02:04 I don't know if you've formally--
00:02:06 Mr. Toronto.
00:02:07 --on Toronto as your Team B. You can tell us if you have or not.
00:02:12 But they used to be--
00:02:13 back in the original days, the OG days of the Garden Report,
00:02:18 you were maybe one or two most popular guys
00:02:21 in Toronto for a bit.
00:02:22 Yeah, and I'll ride with them.
00:02:25 I'm going to see it through the rebuild here.
00:02:27 And I do think the rebuild's coming.
00:02:30 Eight straight wins--
00:02:31 See it through the rebuild.
00:02:32 [LAUGHTER]
00:02:33 Good guy.
00:02:35 Eight straight wins for the Celtics now over Toronto,
00:02:38 which would have been hard to imagine a couple of years ago.
00:02:41 But this team's obviously disbanding here,
00:02:43 but you still see them fight.
00:02:44 I think it was a three-point game in the first Toronto game
00:02:47 this year these teams played.
00:02:48 The Celtics really had to scrap and execute late in that game.
00:02:52 And same thing here--
00:02:53 a couple of big runs by the Raptors to within six late.
00:02:56 The Celtics led by 11 early and gave up a 23 to 5 run
00:03:01 into the third.
00:03:02 So they never stopped.
00:03:03 Attack in the basket, new dynamic,
00:03:05 obviously, with Quickly and Barrett involved.
00:03:08 Those slashing guards were just super effective
00:03:11 at points through this game.
00:03:12 I think Barrett started like eight for 11.
00:03:15 So this was a pretty impressive effort by both of them.
00:03:19 I think the shooting was just horrible on the Toronto side.
00:03:22 So pretty amazing that despite shooting 12% from three,
00:03:26 they stay in this game right down to the wire.
00:03:29 That's on their rebounding.
00:03:30 That's on their effectiveness inside.
00:03:32 Siakam puts a lot of pressure on the rim.
00:03:35 And this is a rough one for Porzingis
00:03:37 trying to deal with that.
00:03:38 And he turned the ball over a bunch on offense, too.
00:03:41 So you needed Holiday.
00:03:42 You need White to make some timely plays.
00:03:44 It was just a ridiculous three in the corner
00:03:47 to close that one out.
00:03:48 Ahead by six, I believe, at that point.
00:03:50 So he was great.
00:03:52 That was after turning his ankle, too,
00:03:54 putting his foot down in the corner,
00:03:55 making sure he was in bounds.
00:03:57 A great pass by Tatum there.
00:03:59 Some good execution in this game in the half court
00:04:01 when the Celtics needed it.
00:04:02 Thought Tatum was good in the second half of the third attack
00:04:05 in the basket.
00:04:06 Holiday, as you mentioned, Jimmy threw out just in the pocket,
00:04:10 around the basket with a putback.
00:04:12 Passing, he had that feed to Tatum for the backdoor
00:04:15 cutting dunk at one point.
00:04:17 And he puts up these stats, honestly, night to night,
00:04:19 Sherrod.
00:04:21 You don't even notice it, right?
00:04:23 It's like, oh, crap.
00:04:24 Holiday has seven rebounds.
00:04:25 I looked up tonight and was like, he has seven assists?
00:04:27 When did that happen?
00:04:29 I feel like we say that every night with him.
00:04:31 Well, we do.
00:04:32 And the thing about Drew that I'm getting a better handle,
00:04:36 and I think most people are as well,
00:04:38 is he has games where you're just like,
00:04:42 maybe he's lost a step or two.
00:04:43 Maybe his shot isn't quite what it is.
00:04:45 And then there are nights like this where a key guy is out,
00:04:48 and he's allowed to essentially be more of the Drew Holiday
00:04:51 that we've seen on other rosters.
00:04:53 And he's really good at when to basically fill that void when
00:04:59 they need him.
00:05:00 Basically, what Paul Pierce always says,
00:05:01 give the game what it needs.
00:05:03 And that's what Drew Holiday consistently does.
00:05:05 But Bobby, your earlier point about how Toronto can't believe
00:05:11 how they were able to hang in here shooting
00:05:13 as bad as they were, the Celtics were helping them.
00:05:16 Because the Celtics are not like crap, too.
00:05:17 Celtics shot 40% from the field.
00:05:20 Great for three-point range.
00:05:21 41%, that's a good number from three-point range.
00:05:25 But you start looking at the box scores of the Celtics.
00:05:29 Tatum, 7 for 19.
00:05:30 Al, usually 4 for 10.
00:05:33 Derek White, 7 for 18.
00:05:35 Drew Holiday was the one bright spot, 7 for 14.
00:05:38 And the bench really didn't have a good--
00:05:40 I mean, Brissette did some good things, I thought.
00:05:42 Sam Hauser, not really much of a factor.
00:05:44 Payton missed six of the seven shots that he took.
00:05:47 This was a game that I thought the Celtics--
00:05:49 this was a transactional win for me.
00:05:51 It was simply, we show up, we get the win,
00:05:53 we get the help back to the United States.
00:05:58 There wasn't any type of emotional engagement
00:06:01 or attachment to this.
00:06:02 I didn't think the Celtics played down to them.
00:06:04 I didn't think the Celtics got up for them.
00:06:06 I think the Celtics just said, let's just get here,
00:06:08 get the win, and get the hell back home.
00:06:09 Yeah.
00:06:10 And they did it the hard way, right?
00:06:12 Because if you play this team later in the year,
00:06:14 it's probably young guys.
00:06:15 And I guess in this one, too, you went up
00:06:17 against Jaunte Porter.
00:06:18 OG's gone.
00:06:19 You saw some of their young guys playing off the bench there.
00:06:22 But this is still a team that has Siakam, Barrett, Quickly.
00:06:27 You know those guys with the Knicks
00:06:29 gave you trouble every time you played them.
00:06:31 So you got their best in, I'd say,
00:06:33 three out of the four games this year.
00:06:35 And you won all three of those.
00:06:37 So this is impressive stuff from the Celtics,
00:06:39 continuing to execute when they need to.
00:06:41 I like Joe's two timeouts in the fourth quarter, Sherrod.
00:06:44 He saved all four for late, and he needed them.
00:06:47 Again, some of those Raptors runs late.
00:06:48 The offense at times in this one was just a mess.
00:06:52 Holliday had that turnover at half court.
00:06:54 You had poor Zingas running into guys over and over again.
00:06:57 I think he had six turnovers in this one.
00:06:59 Tatum missed a lot of jump shots.
00:07:02 You mentioned Pritchard.
00:07:03 All the way down the line, it just
00:07:04 wasn't a great shooting night.
00:07:05 And they really weren't able to get up a lot of threes.
00:07:07 This is normally a team that's closer to 50.
00:07:09 They finished this one with 39.
00:07:11 And you knew right from the start, Jimmy,
00:07:12 they went 15 to 8 in terms of shots in Toronto's favor
00:07:16 early on, just because of turnovers,
00:07:18 because of extra shot opportunities by the Raptors
00:07:22 in this one.
00:07:22 It's a great rebounding team.
00:07:24 So they put a lot of pressure on you there,
00:07:26 9 to 5 on the offensive glass.
00:07:28 So this is always a challenge against this team.
00:07:32 I think this new coach is doing a good job there,
00:07:35 despite a transitional roster.
00:07:38 Quickly is just a really tough guard
00:07:41 to deal with, Schroeder can get by mismatches.
00:07:44 So this is a bad team on paper.
00:07:46 But they play tough, possession of possession in the game.
00:07:50 I thought Barnes had some really nice moments in this one, too.
00:07:53 So I like this win a lot.
00:07:55 This is another road game where you just
00:07:57 battled and pulled it out late.
00:08:00 There's a lot of good stuff here up and down.
00:08:01 We can get into some of the other individual performances,
00:08:05 starting with Holiday here, of course, White.
00:08:08 I feel like he's not playing as well recently,
00:08:10 but he's still playing really well.
00:08:12 It's just he was playing out of this world to start the year.
00:08:14 And then Horford, I thought this might have
00:08:16 been his best game of the season.
00:08:18 So some really good contributions
00:08:19 from some of the depth guys here.
00:08:21 Horford with a couple of timely shots in this game
00:08:25 in the second, a couple of big threes and key moments.
00:08:27 And we haven't really mentioned Porzingis' ability to get
00:08:30 to the free throw line tonight.
00:08:32 That was honestly a big difference maker, because that
00:08:35 happened, a few of those did happen
00:08:38 in the middle of the Raptors making that third quarter run.
00:08:40 I just think Porzingis' ability to sort of reset things,
00:08:45 slow it down a little bit, don't want the Raptors get too,
00:08:47 too hot.
00:08:48 Because that's when a guy like Quickly, no pun intended,
00:08:51 but he wants to get out.
00:08:52 He wants to keep things moving.
00:08:53 He can score in bunches.
00:08:54 I was thinking of you, Jimmy.
00:08:56 They slowed the game down into that third quarter,
00:08:58 the later half of the third quarter.
00:09:00 And the Raptors just went dead.
00:09:02 I mean, when they were out on the run, they were deadly.
00:09:05 When it became a half court game,
00:09:06 the Celtics had a significant advantage.
00:09:08 Exactly.
00:09:09 And I think, again, getting to the line,
00:09:11 driving to the hoop, not taking those--
00:09:12 and I thought Tatum did it a couple of times tonight,
00:09:14 but overall it kept it in check.
00:09:16 But sometimes those threes can--
00:09:18 you live by the three, you die by the three.
00:09:20 If you're missing, if you're not hitting those threes,
00:09:22 you're just allowing the Raptors to get out on the break
00:09:24 and do their thing in transition.
00:09:26 Luckily, I think Porzingis was one of the guys that
00:09:29 was able to recalibrate the team a little bit
00:09:31 on the offensive end, slow it down,
00:09:32 let the Celtics regain that lead,
00:09:34 and then they were able to kind of pull away in that fourth.
00:09:36 I know, was it Hauser that kind of hit the dagger shot there
00:09:40 to go up maybe, I think it was 13 or 14
00:09:43 in that fourth quarter?
00:09:44 So just their ability to be able to come back from that,
00:09:48 it's a sign of growth, in my opinion.
00:09:51 And again, we talked about Holiday starting things off
00:09:55 in Brown's absence, and then Porzingis
00:09:58 being able to do his thing.
00:10:01 This is the difference between maybe a loss last year
00:10:03 and tonight's outcome.
00:10:04 How many times have we said that?
00:10:06 Yeah.
00:10:07 They've had at least seven, eight, nine games
00:10:10 like that so far this year, where you know damn well
00:10:13 if the same situation presented itself a year ago,
00:10:16 we would be bitching and moaning about a bad loss.
00:10:20 And they're finding ways to-- and this was a game, again,
00:10:22 Toronto game.
00:10:25 It's so cliche to talk about it being a game of runs,
00:10:27 but this was really a game of runs,
00:10:30 where Boston will be up by 14, and then Toronto
00:10:33 going to run and go up by seven, and Boston
00:10:34 will go back on their run and go up by 10.
00:10:36 And it was that kind of game.
00:10:39 And those kind of games, the Celtics at some point
00:10:42 in the past have just said, forget it, it's just not
00:10:44 our night.
00:10:45 And tonight, they were just like, no, we're just
00:10:47 going to find a way to win this game,
00:10:49 and it's just going to be another transactional victory
00:10:51 for us.
00:10:52 We're going to come here, we're going to play with them,
00:10:54 they're going to keep it kind of close.
00:10:55 We're not going to be perfect, but we're
00:10:57 going to be perfect enough to get the win.
00:10:59 And the point that both you and Jimmy, you and Bobby made,
00:11:01 that I think is key, is they hit timely shots.
00:11:05 And it wasn't just one guy.
00:11:07 Tatum had his moments, Prezinga had his moments,
00:11:10 Hauser had his moments, Al had his moments,
00:11:11 Drew had his moments.
00:11:12 That's what great teams do.
00:11:14 They have multiple guys that can deliver the dagger
00:11:18 or can deliver the final nail in the coffin, so to speak.
00:11:21 And the Celtics, you saw a lot of that down the stretch
00:11:23 in this game.
00:11:24 Yeah, when we just ran here.
00:11:25 I just feel like it takes a full 48 to beat this team.
00:11:28 I think teams like the Raptors and teams
00:11:30 that have sort of been close in the sense of coming
00:11:33 into that fourth quarter when things change,
00:11:35 they're starting to learn that.
00:11:36 And I think when it comes to, obviously,
00:11:38 Tatum taking over the way he did in the third quarter,
00:11:40 taking a match to his own hands makes a difference.
00:11:42 But the Celtics, the Raptors did a really good job
00:11:44 of just disrupting them and protecting their rim.
00:11:46 Celtics, they were-- they missed nearly more, actually,
00:11:49 than one third of their layups.
00:11:51 They were like, what, 7 to 23 in the paint.
00:11:53 Is Toronto--
00:11:54 [INAUDIBLE] shot falling.
00:11:55 But no, Celtics were--
00:11:57 Toronto was awful from deep.
00:11:59 But the Celtics missed a lot of layups.
00:12:01 I thought that's what really kept Toronto in it,
00:12:03 despite the fact that they were so ice cold from behind the arc.
00:12:06 The way they defended Christophe Zingas, I thought,
00:12:09 was key as well.
00:12:10 But the Celtics--
00:12:10 Yeah.
00:12:11 Toronto, 4 of 32.
00:12:13 I didn't even--
00:12:15 Yeah.
00:12:15 --look that number.
00:12:16 That is--
00:12:16 Yeah, Derek White missed a--
00:12:17 That is next level bad.
00:12:18 Derek White missed a huge layup, and then he
00:12:20 made a big three on the other end, like what Sherrod said.
00:12:23 Other guys stepping up as well after Tatum.
00:12:25 That's what really put the nail in the coffin for the Raptors.
00:12:28 Now, Bobby, you had mentioned earlier off the top
00:12:31 that the rebuilds coming for Toronto,
00:12:34 they just made a pretty big trade, I would say,
00:12:36 borderline franchise-altering type trade here,
00:12:39 I mean, to some extent, with trading OG to the Knicks
00:12:42 and taking back Barrett and--
00:12:45 quickly.
00:12:46 I imagine they didn't do this so that they
00:12:47 could rebuild in a couple years.
00:12:49 What is it about those two players
00:12:51 do you think that made Toronto make that trade?
00:12:56 And do you think they got enough for OG?
00:13:00 Or was it just a win-win on both sides?
00:13:03 I go back and forth on it.
00:13:05 The problem for Toronto is those two players
00:13:08 are about to be expensive.
00:13:09 RJ already signed a big extension,
00:13:11 quickly needs one this summer.
00:13:13 So it's not--
00:13:14 But they must want to pay them, right?
00:13:15 I mean, they wouldn't--
00:13:16 Yeah.
00:13:16 And they probably like them.
00:13:18 They probably want to invest in them.
00:13:20 And they needed a point guard badly.
00:13:22 I mean, Malachi Flynn and Dennis Schroeder
00:13:25 wasn't getting it done for them after Lowry left a couple
00:13:27 years ago.
00:13:28 There's your Schroeder hate.
00:13:29 We knew we were going to get it.
00:13:31 We knew we were going to get it.
00:13:32 But they probably love quickly.
00:13:34 I think there's some Tyrese Maxey-like elements
00:13:38 to his game.
00:13:40 They're not exactly the same player.
00:13:41 But giving him more opportunity and room to play
00:13:44 is, I think, a good thing for him.
00:13:47 And you just had to get off OG and get something back for him.
00:13:50 I think they got a second round pick from Detroit
00:13:52 in that deal, too.
00:13:53 So that's a borderline first round
00:13:55 pick in a couple of years, you'd have to imagine.
00:13:58 So it was decent value.
00:13:59 I know they were looking for four first at one point
00:14:02 for him of value.
00:14:03 And that just wasn't happening.
00:14:05 And then his free agency comes up.
00:14:06 And it's like, oh, crap.
00:14:07 So I think, given that he's an expiring contract,
00:14:10 they did really well.
00:14:11 Same thing's going to happen for Siakam here.
00:14:13 Indiana's apparently in the mix.
00:14:15 Dallas.
00:14:17 Detroit's looking at him.
00:14:19 I mean, they want to get a cornerstone guy in there.
00:14:23 It's just so bad right now that the slow road's not
00:14:26 going to go great for them.
00:14:27 So I'm interested to see who makes the big push.
00:14:29 It seemed like the Kings were on the doorstep of a deal
00:14:33 a week or two ago, built around Harris and Barnes
00:14:37 and probably some draft compensation.
00:14:38 But they backed out because Siakam
00:14:40 wasn't going to extend there.
00:14:42 So will he extend in some of these other cities?
00:14:45 Does he want to stay in Toronto?
00:14:47 I mean, it's the only city he's ever been in.
00:14:49 I think he's a great fit up there in terms of the city.
00:14:52 So I don't know.
00:14:54 I don't know what he wants.
00:14:55 He's a great player.
00:14:56 He's a champion.
00:14:58 Dallas, I think, would be a really nice landing spot
00:15:00 for him.
00:15:00 I think that would be huge for them.
00:15:02 Yeah, and they're playing great right now.
00:15:05 Grant is not.
00:15:06 So they need that help at the four.
00:15:07 Oh.
00:15:09 He said it.
00:15:09 He admitted it.
00:15:10 Your boy Grant had like one good month.
00:15:13 And after that, it's been suspect.
00:15:16 It's been crickets.
00:15:17 Team Grant has been quiet.
00:15:18 Southfix play them on Monday.
00:15:20 Would not be shocked if the Raptors put together
00:15:23 a package that has Grant coming to Toronto.
00:15:26 Grant's getting to Pascal.
00:15:27 That'd be interesting.
00:15:28 And Pascal going to Dallas.
00:15:29 Because to me, when I look at that Dallas roster
00:15:32 and I look at Kyrie and Luca and potentially Pascal
00:15:37 added to the mix, they become a top tier team in the West.
00:15:40 They become a legit--
00:15:42 because to me--
00:15:43 You're going to need to send a lot more than Grant then.
00:15:46 You are.
00:15:47 Absolutely.
00:15:47 And you're going to have to deplete that bench.
00:15:49 But if your core is Kyrie, Luca, and Pascal,
00:15:55 look at their victory in terms of complement each other.
00:15:57 Not just the talent, but just the way
00:15:59 they complement each other.
00:16:01 You don't have three guys that are going to be stepping
00:16:04 over each other's foots.
00:16:05 Kyrie has the ability to play on and off the ball.
00:16:07 Same thing with Luca and Pascal.
00:16:09 Remember when he first came to the league,
00:16:11 he was just Mr. Energy.
00:16:13 Just that guy--
00:16:13 He was in G League.
00:16:15 What's that?
00:16:15 He was a G League guy.
00:16:16 After that, Jimmy.
00:16:17 After G League.
00:16:18 Well, I mean, I feel like he had to earn his place that way.
00:16:21 After he got on the floor in the NBA,
00:16:22 his whole game was about energy and hustle.
00:16:25 And then as time moved on, he became a better face
00:16:28 up shooter.
00:16:29 He became a better rebounder.
00:16:30 He became a better overall defender
00:16:33 and didn't just rely on just being a high energy guy.
00:16:35 Add a guy like that to the mix in Dallas,
00:16:38 you got a team that, again, they're
00:16:39 a top tier team in the West if they can make that happen.
00:16:42 Dallas does have some salaries to throw around.
00:16:44 Tim Hardaway at 18.
00:16:46 Hardaway?
00:16:46 Raquan Holmes at 12.
00:16:48 And if you're a rebuilding team like the Rocco,
00:16:50 if you can get some of those guys on expiring deals
00:16:53 or if their contracts are manageable money wise,
00:16:57 you might have something there.
00:17:00 Because if you're rebuilding, you're just trying to find guys.
00:17:02 You're just trying to find things that click.
00:17:04 You're just trying to find guys that are--
00:17:05 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
00:17:07 Yeah, picks and clicks.
00:17:09 What's clicking with these guys that we're bringing in?
00:17:12 These picks, can we do something with them?
00:17:15 But we've talked way more about Toronto than I--
00:17:17 [LAUGHTER]
00:17:18 Yeah, and that was talking to Sharad.
00:17:20 Well--
00:17:20 This is Bobby Cole.
00:17:21 It's a conference team.
00:17:23 It used to be a rival.
00:17:25 I guess not anymore.
00:17:26 They're not a rival now.
00:17:27 No.
00:17:28 As Bobby--
00:17:28 Used to be a division rival, Sharad, back when
00:17:31 the divisions mattered too.
00:17:32 Divisions don't matter anymore, J.
00:17:34 I know, sad.
00:17:34 I kind of miss the divisions.
00:17:35 Division rivalries.
00:17:37 I bet you they go back to them someday.
00:17:38 Maybe they should do that for the in-season tournament.
00:17:40 There you go, Bobby.
00:17:41 Now you're thinking, tie it back in somehow.
00:17:44 Nah.
00:17:46 Nah, whatever.
00:17:46 Instead of Orlando.
00:17:47 And I guess there were a couple of teams
00:17:49 in the division, Brooklyn and Toronto,
00:17:51 in the group for the IST.
00:17:52 But let's see.
00:17:54 I guess winning the IST, given how it's gone for the Lakers,
00:17:57 isn't the best thing.
00:17:58 Exactly.
00:17:59 Yeah.
00:17:59 I guess none other than--
00:18:00 Raise that banner, though.
00:18:02 Every team that wins it is bad luck.
00:18:04 Is that going to be a thing, though?
00:18:05 Yeah.
00:18:06 I forget who told this--
00:18:08 I forget who told this story.
00:18:10 But I guess Larry David was like,
00:18:13 the worst thing the Lakers could do
00:18:15 is win the in-season tournament.
00:18:17 And whoever was talking to him was like, why?
00:18:18 And he's like, you're ramping up.
00:18:21 It's the championship.
00:18:23 And then you're right back in the regular season games.
00:18:25 And it's weird, because normally you'd
00:18:27 be doing that for the playoffs, and then the season's over.
00:18:31 But now it's like you're starting a second season again
00:18:33 after that.
00:18:34 And the Lakers have their own issues.
00:18:35 But it's going to be interesting to see how teams coming out
00:18:39 of that fair-- the Celtics, obviously, bowed out early.
00:18:42 And they've now won 16 of 20 since getting that week off.
00:18:47 So I was obviously very upset that they didn't make it.
00:18:49 But maybe they benefited from it, Jimmy.
00:18:52 Yeah, well, if Larry David said it, then--
00:18:54 I mean, who knows more about the NBA than Larry freaking David?
00:18:58 I'm like, you talking about the curve of your enthusiasm?
00:19:01 I'm Googling Larry David, or is he
00:19:03 like a GM of some team that I don't know about?
00:19:05 No, Larry David's from--
00:19:06 Larry damn David.
00:19:07 Is there a writer I don't know about?
00:19:09 Is he athletic?
00:19:10 Yeah.
00:19:10 [HUMMING]
00:19:11 Larry David.
00:19:11 [LAUGHTER]
00:19:13 No, but to your point, Bobby, yeah,
00:19:14 we can go back and forth on if it was a question or not.
00:19:16 That's such a Larry David way of thinking, too.
00:19:18 Yeah, exactly.
00:19:19 Larry David's just going to be pissed no matter what, right?
00:19:21 That's the whole point.
00:19:22 Exactly.
00:19:23 So of course he's upset.
00:19:24 That's his brand.
00:19:25 Yeah, exactly.
00:19:25 He's like, come on, now.
00:19:26 He dropped a season every three years because of that.
00:19:29 He's got to ramp up.
00:19:30 Yeah, so--
00:19:31 You have a new season coming out.
00:19:32 Yeah, so we talked Raptors.
00:19:34 We just talked Lakers.
00:19:35 But we'll reel it back in here to the Celtics.
00:19:38 Can we talk Al Horford?
00:19:39 Because I was so excited about it, too.
00:19:40 Let's talk Al.
00:19:41 You know what?
00:19:42 Let's give Al his flower, because he probably
00:19:44 gets a short end of the stick on a lot of these shows.
00:19:47 Banished to the bench to start the year.
00:19:49 Talk about sacrifice, Drew Holiday.
00:19:51 And he was struggling early in the season.
00:19:52 It was very--
00:19:53 Sure, trying to adapt to that new role on the team.
00:19:56 He's been a starter his entire career.
00:19:58 And he's coming in here, again, in a situation
00:20:01 where you're down a starter.
00:20:03 We said this about Drew Holiday to start the show.
00:20:06 That's right.
00:20:07 Al Horford, double-double tonight for the young Bucs
00:20:11 still.
00:20:12 10 points, 11 rebounds, a couple big threes.
00:20:15 I mean, Sharad, you've been following Horford's career
00:20:18 for, gosh--
00:20:19 Ever.
00:20:20 --over a decade now.
00:20:20 We'll just call it forever.
00:20:22 Yeah, I mean, are you surprised by--
00:20:24 Yeah.
00:20:24 No, I'm not surprised.
00:20:26 I mean, Al has always been a guy that
00:20:29 has been good enough to help you win games.
00:20:33 Remember, this is a guy that won not one, but two
00:20:36 back-to-back national championships.
00:20:38 And when he was in Atlanta, a team that, when he got there,
00:20:44 playoffs were something they did every now and then.
00:20:46 He did it every damn year he was there, they were in the playoffs.
00:20:49 So Al, I'm not surprised that he's stepping up to the belt.
00:20:52 But the one thing-- and I've talked to him about this season--
00:20:56 is just the adjustment that comes
00:20:58 when you get to a certain point in your career
00:21:00 where you have to evolve.
00:21:02 And when we think of evolution, we
00:21:04 think of evolving into something bigger, better, and grander.
00:21:07 But sometimes that evolution is evolving
00:21:09 into something more specific from a niche standpoint
00:21:12 that your team needs you to be.
00:21:15 They need Al to be ready and able to impact games
00:21:19 just like that.
00:21:20 And that has to occur on nights like this
00:21:23 when you don't have a Jalen Brown, where he's in the starting
00:21:26 lineup.
00:21:26 You're playing a team like Toronto that doesn't really
00:21:29 have a whole lot to lose.
00:21:31 You've got to make an impact in some way, shape, or form,
00:21:33 a positive one, if your team's going to win.
00:21:37 This is just who he is.
00:21:39 This is who Al Horford is.
00:21:40 Now, is he going to play this well every night?
00:21:42 I don't think so.
00:21:43 But you know that it's there.
00:21:45 And it's similar to what I was saying about Drew Holiday.
00:21:47 Sometimes those older veteran-type players,
00:21:52 we see the true essence of who they
00:21:54 are when someone's missing.
00:21:55 Because that forces them to tap into that wisdom,
00:21:58 that experience, that talent that they
00:22:00 might be holding a little bit back in order
00:22:02 for the betterment of the team to now all of a sudden
00:22:05 shine through.
00:22:05 I think back to what Prezing has said about Drew Holiday,
00:22:08 about how he has sacrificed more than anyone else in his team.
00:22:10 And you don't really see that.
00:22:12 Because when you're watching him play,
00:22:13 when they got their full complement,
00:22:15 he looks like he's just kind of fitting in.
00:22:17 But when you're missing a Jalen Brown,
00:22:19 he goes for 22 points, shoots 50% from the field,
00:22:23 4 for 6 on threes, makes all his free throws,
00:22:26 gets you 6, 7 assists, I think 6 rebounds, something like that.
00:22:30 Had a really all-across-the-board, high-impact
00:22:34 game.
00:22:34 And he has that ability.
00:22:37 It's just that we're not going to see it as often as I think
00:22:40 it could be seen.
00:22:41 Because that's not what the team needs for him to do in order
00:22:44 for them to be successful.
00:22:46 Yeah, for sure.
00:22:46 And I think you'll see him ramp it up for sure
00:22:48 in the postseason.
00:22:49 That's just what Al does.
00:22:50 Like literally, historically speaking,
00:22:52 his numbers go up in the playoffs.
00:22:53 And--
00:22:53 He's trying to get that ring.
00:22:55 I don't think this year will be any different.
00:22:57 Yes, his role has changed a bit.
00:22:58 But that's something that he's adapted to, in my opinion,
00:23:01 for these opportunities.
00:23:02 Has his game changed, Josue?
00:23:03 Or is his game--
00:23:05 over the last couple of years.
00:23:07 Clearly, it's obviously changed from the beginning
00:23:09 of his career to now.
00:23:09 It's completely different.
00:23:11 Right, I mean, ever since he--
00:23:11 With his role change, I mean, I feel
00:23:13 like they're still getting the same guy.
00:23:15 They're asking him to do the same things,
00:23:17 get in the same spots, take the same type of shots.
00:23:20 Right.
00:23:20 He's just going to take less shots
00:23:21 because there's other guys out there that
00:23:23 can knock down shots, right?
00:23:24 I mean, when someone's out in the starting 5,
00:23:26 he's going to obviously give you nights like tonight.
00:23:29 But also, he can have these kind of nights on any given day.
00:23:32 I just feel like throughout the course of an 82-game season,
00:23:34 he knows that it's a long, long road.
00:23:37 And I wouldn't be shocked again if Al turns it up
00:23:39 closer to the playoffs, going into the playoffs.
00:23:42 But these type of nights--
00:23:44 so they'll take that, for sure.
00:23:46 I mean, at this stage of his career,
00:23:48 these are the kind of nights--
00:23:50 this is the kind of role that I think Al can thrive in.
00:23:52 Yeah, sometimes it's hard for him to kind of pick his spots
00:23:56 because there's so many guys around that can knock down
00:23:58 shots and can produce as well.
00:23:59 But when his name is called, he's going to do this.
00:24:02 And again, I think in the end of the season,
00:24:05 going into the postseason, he'll take it up a notch.
00:24:08 He was awesome in this game.
00:24:09 There are certain nights, Jimmy, where he just looks-- maybe it
00:24:12 was the rest last week and getting some extra time off.
00:24:15 He looks super spry on certain nights.
00:24:18 And tonight was one of them.
00:24:20 He was all over guys defensively early,
00:24:22 just knocking the ball out of people's hands.
00:24:24 The rebounding in this one, obviously, pretty high.
00:24:27 And then he went to the post at one point.
00:24:31 And I've noticed that a little bit over the last couple
00:24:33 of games he's played, he'll go to a small inside
00:24:37 and do that little quick hook off the glass overhead.
00:24:40 And I looked at the numbers.
00:24:42 He's up a little bit in terms of those attempts at the rim,
00:24:46 up from like 1 to 1 and 1/2 a game.
00:24:48 He's shooting 70% on them, up from 65 last year.
00:24:52 So that's big, because ever since that Philly season
00:24:54 has steadily gone down in terms of what
00:24:57 he does at the basket, volume and efficiency.
00:25:01 And you just thought, oh, he doesn't have that anymore.
00:25:03 But that's a useful option if you're
00:25:07 in a little bit of a drought or there's
00:25:08 an advantageous matchup there.
00:25:10 They always say, Joe always says, go to the matchup.
00:25:13 And that's something that they can go to, I think.
00:25:15 And then on the defensive end, that zone tonight
00:25:17 was just a killer.
00:25:19 And they threw that out there against Indiana
00:25:21 last week in the first game.
00:25:23 Tonight, it was just so disruptive.
00:25:25 After that big Raptors run, they shut Barnes down
00:25:28 on a few plays with it, got some deflections.
00:25:31 You had Al and Cornette out there at one point
00:25:33 doing it together.
00:25:34 I think Porzingis and Cornette were out there
00:25:37 with the double big alignment.
00:25:39 Just have some size.
00:25:40 And you got Holiday playing in the middle.
00:25:41 It's a weird look.
00:25:42 Sure, I haven't seen too much 2-1-2 in the league.
00:25:45 But the Celtics have gone into that look
00:25:48 with Holiday in the middle.
00:25:49 So you can defend low and high and just kind of roam out there.
00:25:53 And then you have the two bigs down low.
00:25:54 So Indy kind of carved it up in the second game.
00:25:58 But it was great against them in that first game.
00:26:01 And then tonight, it just completely shut the Raptors
00:26:03 down for a little bit.
00:26:04 It just forces opponents to have one more thing they
00:26:07 got to think about in their preparation for the Celtics.
00:26:09 And it's something that I don't think it's--
00:26:12 to me, it's more of a gimmicky type of thing,
00:26:14 where you'll do it for maybe two or three possessions.
00:26:16 Just throw something out there, give them a different look.
00:26:18 Just like Al getting the ball on the block.
00:26:22 I want to see Al do at least three post-ups a game.
00:26:25 He doesn't have to shoot all three times.
00:26:27 He doesn't have to pass all three times.
00:26:28 Because he passes out of that spot.
00:26:29 Right.
00:26:30 But I want him to do that, because it forces the defense
00:26:33 to react in a way that there's no other Celtic that they're
00:26:36 going to react that way for.
00:26:37 Porzingis can score on a block, but that's not really
00:26:39 what he does.
00:26:41 Al can literally go down, put one foot in the paint, one out,
00:26:44 and demand the ball and get it to him.
00:26:46 Porzingis is different.
00:26:48 But Al-- like I said, I just think Al is one of those guys
00:26:52 that little things are going to be huge for this team
00:26:56 to win a championship.
00:26:57 And something as simple as Al getting two or three touches
00:26:59 in a post per game, even if he's not looking to shoot,
00:27:02 even if he doesn't pass, that's one of those things
00:27:04 that they're going to need.
00:27:05 They're going to need that.
00:27:07 Guys, I want to take a quick break,
00:27:09 remind everybody that this show would not be possible.
00:27:13 We would not be able to pay Bobby Manning's salary
00:27:16 if it wasn't for a couple of our great sponsors,
00:27:18 including the great folks at Hello Fresh, America's number
00:27:23 one meal kit.

00:28:01 Bobby is swimming in breakfast over there.
00:28:04 He has been for quite some time.

00:28:07 it comes with a free breakfast item

00:28:12 So if so facto, free breakfast for life.
00:28:15 I know Sherrod's a big Hello Fresh guy, too.
00:28:17 We've all experienced and enjoyed
00:28:20 our meals coming into us.
00:28:22 Hello Fresh is the goat.
00:28:23 Busy life session.
00:28:24 They got a great burger kit.
00:28:25 I know I've gone with the fish package usually.
00:28:28 Nothing better than getting the burger kit because it takes
00:28:31 away all the steps.
00:28:33 Nothing better than biting into a burger,
00:28:35 but sometimes the process of putting that thing together.
00:28:38 Go make sure you get all the ingredients that you want.
00:28:40 Some people want a certain type of vegetable on top,
00:28:42 maybe a certain type of cheese, the condiments.
00:28:44 I'm personally a ketchup and mayo guy.
00:28:46 I got to have ketchup and mayo on my burger.
00:28:49 I got to have them both.
00:28:50 Joey Ray knows what I'm talking about.
00:28:51 Sherrod, you don't like Whoppers?
00:28:52 Come on, man.
00:28:53 What are you, Sherrod?
00:28:54 They added, when I made it last time.
00:28:57 Give me ketchup.
00:28:58 I would need both, man.
00:28:59 That's--
00:29:00 Oh, I got to have both, too.
00:29:02 They had a recipe.
00:29:03 You know what a segregation is when it comes to my condiments?
00:29:07 I try to get them in their own place, man.
00:29:10 Anyways.
00:29:10 They had a recipe, Jimmy, for an onion sauce
00:29:14 to put on top of it last time.
00:29:15 It was just amazing.
00:29:17 Really?
00:29:17 Oh, they gave you the ingredients for it?
00:29:19 Yeah, they had the ingredients.
00:29:20 They had this-- it was the firecracker burger.
00:29:23 It was hot sauce and mayonnaise.
00:29:25 They had these nice sauce blends.
00:29:27 It was good.
00:29:28 Yeah, a little ketchup, a little mayo.
00:29:29 Some people call that Thousand Island, but it's different.
00:29:32 It's not quite that, but I'm telling you,
00:29:34 it's money on the burger.
00:29:35 But anyways, guys, that's HelloFresh.com/CLNSFree.
00:29:38 You can use the code CLNSFree for a free breakfast for life.
00:29:42 One breakfast item per box while subscription is active.
00:29:44 That's free.
00:29:45 Onion jam.
00:29:45 Nick's got it, yeah.
00:29:46 For life.
00:29:47 Oh, that's what it is, onion jam.
00:29:48 HelloFresh.com/CLNSFree with code CLNSFree.
00:29:52 And secondly, but certainly not last,
00:29:56 we cannot forget our friends at FanDuel.
00:30:02 Guys, right now you get $150 in bonus bets
00:30:04 when you place a $5 bet.
00:30:07 You don't even have to win the bet.
00:30:10 And I hope--
00:30:11 I hope.
00:30:12 I'm going to say a little prayer here.
00:30:13 I hope Sherrod did not bet too much money tonight
00:30:16 on his eagles.
00:30:17 Shut up, Jimmy.
00:30:20 As we speak, it's still close.
00:30:23 It's still close.
00:30:24 It's 18 to 9.
00:30:26 Wait, was there a safety or something?
00:30:28 Was it just 16 to 9?
00:30:29 It was 16 to 9.
00:30:31 Oh, it's still close, huh?
00:30:32 It's 18 to 9.
00:30:33 There was just a safety.
00:30:35 So that should tell you how things are going.
00:30:36 Listen, I'm doing well.
00:30:38 You know why I'm doing well?
00:30:39 Why are you doing well?
00:30:40 I'm doing well because I was one of the few, but proud,
00:30:45 who went against the Cowboys and picked the Packers.
00:30:49 Well, you had to go against the Cowboys as an Eagles fan.
00:30:52 I could have stood on the sidelines, Jimmy.
00:30:54 I could have stood on the sidelines.
00:30:55 But I said, you know what?
00:30:57 Green Bay doesn't lose in that building.
00:30:59 Cowboys are doing-- this is exactly what the Cowboys do
00:31:01 every year.
00:31:02 12 and 5, 12 and 4.
00:31:04 Lose before--
00:31:06 That was shocking, though, to lose like that.
00:31:08 I mean, they just start running out of the building.
00:31:10 There are a lot of words to describe.
00:31:11 It's kind of like the Celtics game 7 against Miami there.
00:31:16 So anyways, the game's still going on right now.
00:31:18 Obviously, no one's watching it because they're all
00:31:20 watching our show.
00:31:21 But if they were watching it, they
00:31:23 would see the Eagles are going to have to stage
00:31:25 a little fourth quarter comeback.
00:31:27 But again, guys, it's--
00:31:28 Fourth quarter.
00:31:29 Yeah, I know, but I'm just anticipating
00:31:31 if they just gave up a safety, that means the Bucs
00:31:34 are about to get ball back, probably
00:31:36 take it to the fourth quarter.
00:31:37 Anyways--
00:31:38 By the way, did you see the commercial, Jimmy?
00:31:39 I guess Gronk's kicking another field goal this year
00:31:41 at the Super Bowl for probably some free bets.
00:31:44 Anything Gronk related, I'm all for.
00:31:46 So guys, new customers get $150 in bonus bets,
00:31:52 guaranteed when you place a $5 bet on FanDuel.
00:31:55 That's $150 in bonus bets.
00:31:57 Win or lose.
00:31:58 So again, go on the app right now.
00:32:01 Bet the fourth quarter.
00:32:02 If you think the--
00:32:03 You know what, Shred, if you think the Eagles are
00:32:04 going to make a comeback, I want you to get on FanDuel
00:32:07 and place that bet right now.
00:32:09 Guys, visit FanDuel.com/Boston.
00:32:12 That's the key to get this deal.
00:32:13 It's FanDuel.com/Boston to get $150 in bonus bets
00:32:17 when you place a $5 bet.
00:32:19 We're going to wrap the show with a little bit more
00:32:21 football talk.
00:32:21 I don't want to say what it's about yet,
00:32:23 but we did have some late-breaking news right
00:32:25 before the show started about the NFL.
00:32:29 I'm not going to get into specifics,
00:32:31 but I'm sure people can do their own research
00:32:32 and figure out what we're going to at least mention.
00:32:35 Great tease, Jimmy.
00:32:36 Great tease.
00:32:36 Before we do that, we will reel it back in here.
00:32:39 Let me get back to my--
00:32:40 let me go through 1,000 of these lower thirds
00:32:42 and find the one I want.
00:32:44 Here it is.
00:32:46 Bring everybody back around here and recap quickly.
00:32:50 105-96 Celtics win after a big win against old friend Ime
00:32:55 Udoka Saturday night.
00:32:57 And I wasn't able to be on that show.
00:32:59 But it looked like the Celtics rebounded very nicely
00:33:02 from their embarrassing loss in Milwaukee.
00:33:05 And they kind of handed the Rockets a similar type of loss.
00:33:09 I hate to say it too, Jimmy.
00:33:10 I think John got you on that one.
00:33:12 It was definitely a subdued crowd that didn't really care.
00:33:16 It seems subdued, but I will say this.
00:33:18 There were some boos.
00:33:19 There were more boos than cheers.
00:33:20 Give me that.
00:33:22 Give me that.
00:33:23 I want to say this.
00:33:24 I didn't really hear any cheers.
00:33:25 I heard some faint boos and then, like you said,
00:33:27 kind of nothingness because typically there's
00:33:31 not a huge reaction to the coaches.
00:33:33 And I thought maybe Ime's would be a lot louder than it was.
00:33:36 But it was--
00:33:37 They did that.
00:33:38 And of course, Ime Udoka.
00:33:39 Yeah.
00:33:39 [LAUGHTER]
00:33:41 Yeah, he said it quick.
00:33:42 You know what?
00:33:42 It's over with.
00:33:43 It's done with.
00:33:43 We don't have to talk about it anymore.
00:33:45 And I think both sides can probably move on.
00:33:47 And--
00:33:48 That's how it felt. It's like it's over.
00:33:51 Obviously, the big revelation was
00:33:52 that he told the players what happened, apparently.
00:33:56 So everybody just moved on after that, I guess.
00:34:00 Yeah.
00:34:00 He told the players his version of what happened, yes.
00:34:02 [LAUGHTER]
00:34:03 Yeah.
00:34:04 We're going to be very clear about that.
00:34:05 But look, the biggest-- here's the thing.
00:34:07 And this is why I think it's just such a dead issue.
00:34:10 Look at where he's at.
00:34:11 Look at where the franchise is at.
00:34:12 They got killed today.
00:34:15 I mean, if you're the Boston Celtics,
00:34:17 you're kind of good with where things are right now.
00:34:20 Right.
00:34:22 You're not Brooklyn Nets.
00:34:24 You're not some of these other teams that at one point
00:34:28 had watershed moments where they were top tier.
00:34:30 And then all of a sudden, one change in their top
00:34:34 of the organization.
00:34:35 And then they just basically begin to suck.
00:34:38 No, Celtics have actually moved on and moved forward
00:34:41 and moved ahead since he left.
00:34:43 So if I'm fans, I'm not mad at him.
00:34:47 Hell no, I'm good.
00:34:50 I'm good.
00:34:51 You should be good if you're Celtics Nation.
00:34:52 You should be good, good.
00:34:53 I think--
00:34:54 If the Celtics were 500-yard, damn well,
00:34:56 that place would be booed.
00:34:59 Yeah, I think Udo could easily send Missoula a fruit
00:35:03 basket or something to take the heat off him a little bit,
00:35:06 I think, with the way that Celtics have been able to
00:35:08 continue on without him.
00:35:11 My whole thing, Sherrod, and I don't
00:35:12 want to go down this path again because it's old news,
00:35:15 but my whole thing was regardless of whether or not
00:35:17 you think the punishment fit the crime--
00:35:19 and we don't know, but regardless
00:35:21 of whether or not you do--
00:35:23 the person that it only mattered to thought it did.
00:35:26 And in doing so, Emei effed the team last year, in my opinion.
00:35:30 Because if you thought they were good enough--
00:35:32 It was definitely much more impactful last year,
00:35:34 there's no doubt about it.
00:35:35 Last year, if you thought that Celtics should have been
00:35:36 in the NBA Finals and been an NBA champion, they weren't.
00:35:40 And I think a lot of people would
00:35:42 say the way that season started a little bit--
00:35:44 obviously, everything was in turmoil for a bit.
00:35:48 And the toughness that Emei brought the team,
00:35:50 you could make the point that the heat out-toughed them
00:35:54 in the playoffs last year.
00:35:55 And maybe that doesn't happen if Emei still coached.
00:35:56 So it's watered under the bridge at this point.
00:35:58 But that was my point, is that's why I would boo him,
00:36:02 is because for the simple fact that he wasn't around long
00:36:05 enough for me to have any other--
00:36:07 I'm not going to cheer him, I'm not going to bring a sign that
00:36:09 says--
00:36:10 John was cheering.
00:36:11 --we miss you, Emei.
00:36:12 Yeah, John brought his pom-poms, apparently.
00:36:14 But I didn't think there was enough--
00:36:16 there wasn't enough time--
00:36:17 No, John said no reaction, which is basically
00:36:20 what it was all night.
00:36:21 I thought there might be some cheering.
00:36:22 I thought there might be some--
00:36:24 Well, that was the other thing.
00:36:24 Maybe there was, but--
00:36:26 And it was a blowout, so it didn't need to come to that.
00:36:28 But what happened to home court advantage?
00:36:30 Make the other guys-- keep it in line,
00:36:32 but isn't it all about making the--
00:36:34 the advantage is making the other team uncomfortable.
00:36:37 So why are you cheering?
00:36:39 Why are you doing those things?
00:36:41 Any excuse that I can boo an opposing player, or coach,
00:36:44 or team, I'm taking it if I'm a fan, just because--
00:36:47 It was a solid game for a quarter and a half
00:36:48 before it became a blowout.
00:36:50 So there was an opportunity to.
00:36:52 But again, I just don't think people cared anymore.
00:36:54 That was my big--
00:36:56 that was my big reaction.
00:36:57 Well, you guys-- you guys were right.
00:37:00 You guys are more right than I was.
00:37:01 And you know what?
00:37:03 I thought it would be like 60-40, which--
00:37:06 I thought you'd get a nice ovation.
00:37:08 Yeah.
00:37:08 You thought he was going to get an ovation?
00:37:10 See, I never understood that at all.
00:37:12 Making the finals.
00:37:13 Post one year, they made the finals.
00:37:15 We got another-- we got another Joe Sway
00:37:17 freeze frame right now.
00:37:20 Joe Sway is stunned.
00:37:21 Joe Sway is stunned at your take.
00:37:22 That's why you're giving us a freeze frame like that.
00:37:26 Anyways, I'm not going to get into it.
00:37:27 He coached one year.
00:37:28 They lost.
00:37:28 They actually blew the finals, if you want to spin it.
00:37:31 And then he got fired.
00:37:32 So that's why I would--
00:37:34 so anyways, anything on this game?
00:37:36 I mean, we've hit on a few--
00:37:38 I mean, we haven't really mentioned Tatum much.
00:37:40 We're taking Tatum's game.
00:37:41 Yeah, we haven't mentioned him much.
00:37:43 Sherrod, anything that stood out to you tonight on Tatum,
00:37:46 other than the usual?
00:37:48 Well, he had that stretch, I think
00:37:51 it was second or third quarter, where he was just
00:37:53 rebounding the ball like crazy.
00:37:54 He had like six or seven rebounds in one quarter.
00:37:57 Tatum did what Tatum's supposed to do.
00:37:59 I mean, this was a game where--
00:38:01 well, as I said earlier, this was a transactional win.
00:38:04 There was nothing-- there was no emotional engagement
00:38:08 or attachment to this victory, other than we're just
00:38:10 going to go--
00:38:11 14 rebounds, damn.
00:38:12 --with the win.
00:38:13 Yeah.
00:38:13 And this is-- this was Tatum.
00:38:14 This is what Tatum's supposed to do.
00:38:15 Now, he didn't shoot the ball nearly as well in this game
00:38:18 as he has in previous 3, 4, 5 games.
00:38:21 But still, he made the shots that needed to be made.
00:38:24 He made an impact.
00:38:25 And I think Tatum's at that point
00:38:27 where he doesn't have to score a ton of points
00:38:29 to have a very good game.
00:38:30 Like this, he's had games where he scored more than this
00:38:34 that weren't nearly as good as this one,
00:38:36 because he impacted the game on multiple levels.
00:38:39 His scoring, his rebounding, he made some really good passes.
00:38:42 He did a little bit of everything.
00:38:43 And his defense was solid as well.
00:38:45 So this was a good Jason Tatum game.
00:38:47 But was it a great one?
00:38:49 Is this one for the archives?
00:38:51 No, but he did exactly what the best players are
00:38:55 supposed to do in games like this.
00:38:57 Hold on.
00:38:57 Let's pull in Joe Sway.
00:38:59 Do we have to?
00:39:01 There he is.
00:39:01 There he is.
00:39:03 He's stunned still at Bobby's take that Emeigh should
00:39:06 have got a standing ovation.
00:39:08 I'm surprised they didn't retire Emeigh's number.
00:39:09 Just pick a number and toss it up there in the Raptors.
00:39:12 He brought him to the NBA Finals.
00:39:14 Oh, Joe.
00:39:15 He helped push these guys.
00:39:16 And one of the things he talked about that Tatum did again
00:39:19 tonight is when the shot's not on,
00:39:21 find other ways to impact the game.
00:39:23 The rebounding's been huge all year.
00:39:25 I feel like he's the best rebounder, honestly.
00:39:27 And they need it, because some of the other bigs and even--
00:39:31 you can't rely on the guards.
00:39:33 So you need your big forward to be getting those.
00:39:35 And he did tonight and does.
00:39:38 But the shot wasn't there.
00:39:40 And at the start of the third, I thought
00:39:43 his misses were a big reason the Raptors were
00:39:46 getting out and on the run and such.
00:39:49 But then he went to the rim.
00:39:51 And those finishes were just so powerful.
00:39:54 Back cut guys, finished over young at one point
00:39:58 with a vicious dunk, and then the free throw attempts.
00:40:00 So this is a good, resilient performance for him
00:40:04 in terms of how does he play when he's not making shots,
00:40:06 which is always the big question with him.
00:40:08 Because I feel like how he reacts to that
00:40:10 is how it piles down to the rest of the team.
00:40:14 And then when you don't have Jalen to counter his style,
00:40:17 Jalen would have been the one attacking the basket tonight.
00:40:20 And they didn't have that.
00:40:21 So he went to it.
00:40:23 He's so good in there, Sherrod.
00:40:24 And I've had this conversation with Joe Swayce, Sherrod,
00:40:28 in terms of who he compares to.
00:40:31 Because we've kicked around Durant.
00:40:33 Durant's just a much better shooter than him, I think.
00:40:36 So it's tough to make that comparison.
00:40:38 He's bigger, too, taller.
00:40:40 There's just a power to Tatum's game now at this point,
00:40:43 where he's gained the weight, where he's improved
00:40:45 as a finisher, that he's that power forward.
00:40:50 And more often than not, he needs
00:40:51 to power through guys, whether posting up,
00:40:54 whether on the drive, and finish inside, get free throws.
00:40:58 Because his shot's very inconsistent,
00:41:00 we've seen in recent years.
00:41:01 And in a game like this, where it's not there,
00:41:03 you have to get downhill.
00:41:05 And his drives are down this year,
00:41:06 which is very disappointing.
00:41:08 Yeah, but you know, you had Paul Pierce back, man,
00:41:11 that footwork.
00:41:13 We see it from time to time, we just don't see it every night.
00:41:16 Here's my thing, though, about this game.
00:41:18 I mean, Tatum, like I said, he's not doing anything right now
00:41:22 that we haven't seen at least 10, 15, 20 times already
00:41:25 this season.
00:41:25 He's that consistently elite.
00:41:28 But for me, Derek White is interesting.
00:41:34 We talked a little bit about him struggling,
00:41:36 but I wanted to ask all of you, though.
00:41:38 I mean, are you concerned about his shot making?
00:41:41 Because he's shot less than 40% in four of the last five games,
00:41:45 and he's shot less than 30% in three of the last five games.
00:41:50 How concerned are you with Derek White and his shot making?
00:41:53 Because that's a big--
00:41:54 I mean, that's one of those little things that's
00:41:56 going to be huge for this team.
00:41:57 They're going to win it all.
00:41:58 With him-- go ahead, Josue.
00:42:00 I'm just going to say, I'm not too concerned.
00:42:03 The ankle thing kind of scared me tonight.
00:42:05 He was able to come back because he's Derek White,
00:42:08 and he's just Iron Man.
00:42:09 But maybe he needs a few games off.
00:42:12 He's taken some hits physically that
00:42:14 make me a little bit nervous.
00:42:16 He's not--
00:42:17 Why doesn't he get a rest night?
00:42:19 We're just using Derek White not being phased at all
00:42:23 by physicality.
00:42:24 And he's feeling it.
00:42:27 He's feeling some of that physicality
00:42:29 now that I don't know if he felt--
00:42:32 or at least he didn't let on that he was feeling earlier.
00:42:35 So he-- I said it off the top.
00:42:38 He is not playing as well as he was to start the year,
00:42:41 obviously, when he was on all-star pace
00:42:44 around Christmas there.
00:42:46 But he's still playing incredible.
00:42:48 You look at the floater over Barrett late, the three,
00:42:52 obviously.
00:42:52 And he had another finish late, too.
00:42:55 He was just timely tonight.
00:42:57 I thought he was the most timely player in the fourth quarter
00:43:00 in terms of the shots he made.
00:43:02 So he's going to stay involved.
00:43:03 There was-- oh, the other shot he made.
00:43:06 Siakam came around the back of him.
00:43:09 And they were triple-teaming him.
00:43:10 And it looked like he was going to lose the ball.
00:43:12 And he just kept control of it.
00:43:14 And then everybody backed off.
00:43:16 And he just stepped right into the mid-range
00:43:18 and hit an elbow jumper.
00:43:19 So he was super timely in this one.
00:43:21 The defense is going to be there.
00:43:23 You know that.
00:43:25 He's definitely in a little bit of a slump right now.
00:43:27 And maybe that's fatigue or bumps and bruises,
00:43:30 whatever it might be.
00:43:31 He wants to play every game.
00:43:33 So I can't imagine he's going to take a rest at any point.
00:43:36 But this is, I think, an acceptable game from him.
00:43:39 When he's making shots, he's in another stratosphere.
00:43:43 When he's not, he's still doing so much else
00:43:45 that I think you're able to live with it.
00:43:47 Now, it can't be a massive slump like we've
00:43:49 seen over a handful of games coming into this one,
00:43:53 like we saw in the 2022 playoffs, Jimmy.
00:43:55 But I think he's in a much more confident place
00:43:58 where he can shake off a game like this shooting-wise.
00:44:00 And again, he shot 5-0, 11 from 3.
00:44:02 That's pretty damn good.
00:44:04 Yeah, if he's not going to hit those big shots,
00:44:06 you know it's going to be like a big steal
00:44:07 or some crazy putback or some sort of offensive rebound
00:44:11 to give these guys another chance.
00:44:13 He just finds a way to make an impact.
00:44:15 But you wonder if this stuff is catching up to him.
00:44:18 It would be nice to see him have a break every once in a while.
00:44:21 Again, if we're panicking over 22 and 5-0, 11 from 3,
00:44:25 yeah, I think we're--
00:44:27 If it was just the one game, then yeah, you're right.
00:44:29 But it's not--
00:44:30 But the extended stretch, yeah.
00:44:31 He's had like three or four games.
00:44:33 And we're not used to Derek White having three or four
00:44:35 within a 5-6 game window of subpar shooting games.
00:44:39 That's just not-- that hasn't been his pattern.
00:44:42 And that's why I think it's something
00:44:44 to at least put on the radar to be on the lookout for.
00:44:48 But to me, it reinforces the need to have a stronger bench.
00:44:55 I mean, if Houser is--
00:44:56 We should talk about that.
00:44:58 Yeah.
00:44:58 I think back to when Brad kind of alluded
00:45:01 to wanting another wing.
00:45:03 I'm not sure he's looking at a wing for defensive purpose.
00:45:05 I'm thinking he might be looking for someone who can actually
00:45:08 make a shot or string together a couple of shots.
00:45:12 When you have a guy out and maybe one of your other wings
00:45:17 that's playing more minutes, maybe
00:45:18 they don't have shots going.
00:45:19 Is there someone other than Sam Houser that you can rely on?
00:45:22 And that's no disrespect to Sam.
00:45:23 It's just that he's the only one.
00:45:26 Yeah.
00:45:27 I mean, and part of my concern with Sam--
00:45:30 and again, this is no knock on him.
00:45:32 But I wish there was someone else that
00:45:34 would push him to be better.
00:45:35 Because Sam's really good now.
00:45:37 But I still think there's a level
00:45:39 that Sam can go to if there was someone around that was
00:45:43 actually challenging him for minutes.
00:45:44 But there's no one.
00:45:45 There is no--
00:45:46 I'm so curious.
00:45:47 They're going to make a move.
00:45:48 I don't think there's any doubt about it, because my sense is,
00:45:51 just talking to people, they really like this bench.
00:45:54 They really like the guys off the bench.
00:45:56 They want to add one more piece.
00:45:56 They know they need another piece.
00:45:58 They need another piece.
00:45:59 And there's just so many unproven guys here
00:46:01 off this bench.
00:46:03 Houser's had a great year.
00:46:04 He didn't play a minute in the playoffs last year,
00:46:06 at least a meaningful one.
00:46:08 Pritchard had a little bit of a run during the finals run.
00:46:10 But it wasn't super impactful.
00:46:12 But he has the experience.
00:46:15 And then you go to Brissette, no real playoff experience there.
00:46:18 Cornett, obviously none.
00:46:19 So you don't know how any of these guys are going
00:46:21 to fare in a playoff environment.
00:46:23 Are they going to get targeted and driven off the floor?
00:46:25 Are they going to get ignored offensively, Sherrod,
00:46:27 to a point where they can't play because it's
00:46:30 impacting the offense?
00:46:31 That's your worry with this bench right now.
00:46:33 Because like you said, Houser's the only one
00:46:35 who's really a threat, who really
00:46:36 draws defensive coverage.
00:46:38 And even he's prone to go cold at points.
00:46:41 So I don't know what you're going to do here.
00:46:43 They're definitely not going to consolidate this bench, Jimmy,
00:46:45 I don't think, into one shot-trucker off the bench.
00:46:50 But I think you do have to just add a guy to the mix,
00:46:53 like Mascala last year.
00:46:54 And looking back on it, honestly,
00:46:57 that Mascala trade was a miss.
00:46:58 You traded two seconds for a guy who can never really play
00:47:01 for you.
00:47:01 So that was a swing and a miss.
00:47:03 Interesting today, though.
00:47:04 And it's a good segue into this.
00:47:06 I don't think it's going to necessarily be a trade.
00:47:10 I was going to comment on White before we got off him.
00:47:12 I mean, I think, just to answer Sherrod's question,
00:47:15 I'm not completely--
00:47:16 I'm definitely not in panic mode about Derek White.
00:47:18 And one of the reasons is, I know
00:47:21 what he's capable of now.
00:47:22 I was panicking when they first made the trade,
00:47:26 and he was shooting horribly for the rest of the year.
00:47:28 And I said, anyone who watches the show
00:47:31 knows how concerned, to put it in a lack of better word,
00:47:35 me and John were about that trade.
00:47:37 And we wondered if it was a trade that
00:47:41 was going to just torpedo the team for the next couple
00:47:43 years.
00:47:44 Obviously, that wasn't the case.
00:47:45 Derek White completely turned it around last year.
00:47:48 If you just look at this season alone, Sherrod,
00:47:51 I don't think the last 10 games are
00:47:54 indicative of who Derek White is.
00:47:56 And I don't really know if the 10 games before that
00:48:00 were indicative of who Derek White is.
00:48:01 He's probably somewhere in the middle.
00:48:04 And because just looking at the splits, if you look at the
00:48:08 games, I think it's 21 to 30, he was shooting 54%, 55%
00:48:13 from the field.
00:48:14 That's not sustainable.
00:48:15 And whatever it was from three is probably like 46%, 47%.
00:48:19 And now, I'm sure it's torpedoed, right?
00:48:22 I mean, over the last 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 games,
00:48:25 he's coming back down to earth.
00:48:27 I don't think he's going to continue to shoot at that
00:48:29 level, but I think he's going to find--
00:48:31 I think he's finding water a little bit.
00:48:33 And I think he's going to come back up a little bit.
00:48:34 You're still going to get a player that's going to have a
00:48:37 career year this year.
00:48:38 You're still going to get a guy that's going to finish with
00:48:40 the most points he's had at the end of the year on an
00:48:44 average basis.
00:48:45 I still think the intangible stuff that he's doing now,
00:48:49 reminiscent of those Marcus Smart days.
00:48:51 Again, he's like a higher basketball IQ Marcus Smart, in
00:48:56 my opinion.
00:48:56 Again, no shade at Marcus Smart.
00:48:59 Marcus Smart was good at Marcus Smart things.
00:49:00 But I think Derek White, when he has the ball, even if he's
00:49:03 not having a night where he's averaging, where he's scoring
00:49:05 20 plus--
00:49:07 and that's what he was doing for a stretch.
00:49:09 He was scoring 20 plus points a game.
00:49:10 And I don't really know if that's what we can expect from
00:49:14 him on a night-by-night basis as the guy who's got to score
00:49:17 after Brown, who's got to score after Tatum.
00:49:20 Poor Zinges is going to get his.
00:49:21 I don't think you can expect 20 plus points a game from
00:49:23 Derek White.
00:49:23 Now, it's great.
00:49:24 We know he's capable of it.
00:49:25 But I just don't think that's what you're going to get.
00:49:27 That doesn't mean that I'm panicked.
00:49:28 I do think some of those shots that aren't falling are going
00:49:31 to start to fall a little bit more often than they have over
00:49:33 the last few games.
00:49:35 Is it a nagging injury that he's dealing with?
00:49:38 I'm not sure.
00:49:38 Does he need a night off?
00:49:39 Maybe.
00:49:40 He's had a couple this season.
00:49:42 But no, I'm not panicked.
00:49:43 I do think that this is a slump.
00:49:45 All these guys go through it.
00:49:47 I think he's earned the right to go through a
00:49:48 little bit of a slump.
00:49:49 He has.
00:49:50 It just looks-- I mean, and again, not--
00:49:54 it just looks as though it's more of a mental thing than
00:49:58 anything else, that he needs some time off.
00:50:02 I mean, at this point, just watching him play, I'm really--
00:50:06 I'm hoping that once--
00:50:07 You think the kid's keeping him up late?
00:50:10 Stop, Jimmy.
00:50:12 Don't go there.
00:50:12 It's a dad problem.
00:50:14 Everyone's got it.
00:50:15 Which is why I'm telling you to stop.
00:50:17 That's why I'm telling you to stop.
00:50:19 No, I think-- I'm really hoping an all-star break is
00:50:22 going to be really good for him to have some time where he's
00:50:25 not doing anything in terms of game, direct game preparation.
00:50:29 He can actually kick back and relax a little bit.
00:50:31 Because he needs-- I think that is what he needs more than
00:50:34 anything else right now, just some time off the floor.
00:50:39 But the problem is he gives you so much,
00:50:41 even when he's struggling, that you can't keep him off the
00:50:44 floor.
00:50:45 So the all-star break can't get here quick enough for Derek,
00:50:48 whether he's an all-star or not.
00:50:50 He's going to be--
00:50:50 Yeah, I mean, he's probably not going to be at this point,
00:50:52 unless there's injuries.
00:50:53 But--
00:50:54 And even now, I don't even think he'll be--
00:50:55 I don't even think he'll be a top choice for injuries.
00:50:58 Yeah, no, he won't be the top choice, certainly.
00:51:02 I want to bring this up, though.
00:51:03 Maybe minor, but an interesting trade
00:51:07 did happen yesterday in the NBA between the Wizards
00:51:10 and Pistons, Marvin Bagley and Isaiah Livers going from Detroit
00:51:15 to Washington.
00:51:15 And Mike Mascala and Danilo Gallinari going to the Pistons.
00:51:20 I was waiting for you to bring this up, Bobby.
00:51:22 Yeah, why'd you light up like that?
00:51:24 Because it's like, Mike Mascala.
00:51:27 He's cooking.
00:51:27 Bobby's cooking.
00:51:28 He's got something going on in his mind up there.
00:51:31 I find it interesting because no one's
00:51:34 going to trade for those guys.
00:51:35 They really struggled in Washington,
00:51:36 didn't play a ton, but--
00:51:39 I love Gallo.
00:51:41 You're talking about a final situation, aren't you?
00:51:43 Yeah.
00:51:44 So I don't think it's Mascala.
00:51:46 They don't need another big.
00:51:47 He's not better than Cornette.
00:51:48 Gallinari's interesting because he can play a little 5.
00:51:55 He can--
00:51:56 And he's better than Cornette.
00:51:57 Let's say it, Bobby.
00:51:58 Say it.
00:51:58 He's better than Cornette.
00:52:00 He's not saying it.
00:52:00 No, I don't think so.
00:52:01 [LAUGHTER]
00:52:02 It's different.
00:52:04 You're the Gallo center?
00:52:05 I mean, Gallinari's this year, and I know it's a small sample.
00:52:09 But 31 from 3, 43 from the field.
00:52:14 He takes threes.
00:52:15 7.3 rebounds.
00:52:16 Yeah, I mean, I'm confident--
00:52:17 It's Chris Brake that takes threes.
00:52:19 Wow.
00:52:19 I'm confident in him playing better than that.
00:52:23 But he'd effectively be a Blake on this team.
00:52:26 I know someone said in the chat earlier.
00:52:29 Does that help you?
00:52:31 Do you actually want more of an impact guy?
00:52:32 Because I don't think he's going to help you much.
00:52:35 But if you do want a guy in there for some vibes
00:52:37 and maybe sneak a few minutes here or there for free,
00:52:41 that might be a guy who becomes available.
00:52:43 Well, I think chances are, Bobby, whoever
00:52:45 the Celtics trade for isn't going
00:52:46 to be someone that's going to help you right away.
00:52:48 I think, if anything, it's an insurance policy.
00:52:51 Gallinari--
00:52:52 Is he good enough for that?
00:52:55 I mean--
00:52:56 I'd rather wing insurance policy, to be honest.
00:52:59 Yeah.
00:53:00 I think Brad Stevens is spot on in just--
00:53:03 They already have enough wings.
00:53:05 Especially when the ones you brought in
00:53:08 haven't exactly made the most of their opportunities
00:53:11 to get on the floor.
00:53:12 Right.
00:53:13 O'Shea has been up and down.
00:53:16 Lamar has been down.
00:53:18 Is O'Shea showing a little something now?
00:53:20 What's that?
00:53:21 Is O'Shea showing a little something?
00:53:23 I mean, he's so good on the floor.
00:53:24 He shows a little something every now and then,
00:53:25 but he doesn't show it consistently.
00:53:27 That's been his issue here.
00:53:30 When Brad said that wing might be on the team,
00:53:34 I don't think there's any doubt he was talking about O'Shea.
00:53:37 He was absolutely talking about O'Shea.
00:53:39 But the fact that he has to qualify with might
00:53:43 be on the team tells you all you need to know.
00:53:47 He might be on the team, but he hasn't shown me enough
00:53:49 so that I'm confident as a GM to say, that's my guy.
00:53:52 Right.
00:53:54 So if we're comparing--
00:53:55 In other words, Brad's still looking.
00:53:57 If we're comparing someone to Cornette, though,
00:54:00 I mean, the offensive rebounding that Brissette brings
00:54:03 is really a game changer.
00:54:04 And if you put--
00:54:05 Yeah, Shirot, you got him in his feelings, man.
00:54:07 Look what you did.
00:54:07 I know.
00:54:08 [LAUGHTER]
00:54:09 If you put--
00:54:10 He's still thinking about what you said about Cornette.
00:54:12 Wait a minute.
00:54:13 I was ready to let that ship just go down the ocean
00:54:16 and die like the Titanic is going to die.
00:54:21 But Bobby's like, no, let's go.
00:54:23 If you--
00:54:24 I was thinking about that point, too.
00:54:25 Hold on.
00:54:26 Go ahead.
00:54:27 Finish with the Lukeology.
00:54:29 If you put up Brissette's offensive rebounding
00:54:32 number against everybody in the league,
00:54:34 he'd be 17th right there tied with Sabonis
00:54:37 coming into the night.
00:54:38 So that's the level he's rebounding at.
00:54:40 Obviously, he doesn't qualify to be among the league leaders.
00:54:43 Wow, Sabonis.
00:54:44 In his minutes, he's rebounding at a Sabonis level.
00:54:48 So this is super impactful stuff from him.
00:54:52 He's doing it on the boards.
00:54:53 And if he can shoot 33% to 35% from three, defend,
00:55:00 they might go small with Horford O'Shea
00:55:03 rather than trying to do the Horford-Cornette thing
00:55:05 in the playoffs.
00:55:06 Because Cornette, matchup-wise, there's
00:55:08 certain games where he just has a lot of trouble getting
00:55:11 switched out and things like that.
00:55:13 And tonight, again, I know why people are frustrated.
00:55:16 He dropped so many rebounds on the offensive glass
00:55:20 in this one.
00:55:20 So that's something O'Shea's not going to do.
00:55:23 He's going to hammer it down.
00:55:24 He's going to get by guys and be in the right spot.
00:55:28 I mean, his rebounding is uncanny, Sherrod.
00:55:31 The way he crashes out of the corner--
00:55:32 I know Scales said it on the broadcast, too.
00:55:34 That's a real-- what do we say, Sherrod?
00:55:37 If you're going to be on the court,
00:55:38 if you're going to be in the playoff rotation,
00:55:41 you need a real deal skill that's
00:55:43 going to keep you out there.
00:55:45 Is it your shooting?
00:55:46 Is it your passing?
00:55:47 Is it your decision making?
00:55:48 His is his rebounding.
00:55:50 And he might not hit seven threes
00:55:55 like Grant did in a playoff game.
00:55:57 But he might have three or four offensive rebounds
00:55:59 in a playoff game over a five, six-minute stretch.
00:56:01 So I do believe in O'Shea.
00:56:04 I think he's going to be in that mix for a playoff spot.
00:56:08 I just think the cost of acquiring an impact wing
00:56:11 like Jon Conchar, like somebody like that,
00:56:13 is going to be a little too high.
00:56:14 I mean, I said, Jimmy, would you give up a first for him?
00:56:16 And you were like, hell no.
00:56:17 Hell no.
00:56:19 We laughed.
00:56:19 We actually had a good, long, hard laugh.
00:56:23 And right now, Memphis needs him to actually court a NBA team.
00:56:27 They have so many guys hurt.
00:56:28 So I don't know if that's going to be
00:56:31 in the cards.
00:56:32 You might need O'Shea to step up.
00:56:34 And--
00:56:36 They might just be stuck with who they have.
00:56:37 I mean, it--
00:56:38 Jimmy, that's what I think may wind up being the case.
00:56:41 Maybe you throw Gallinari in the mix.
00:56:43 Yeah, and hope you get lucky.
00:56:45 But it's very possible you make no trade deadline deals.
00:56:48 Yeah, it's very possible.
00:56:50 And I would be OK with that as long
00:56:54 as Brad has exhausted all options
00:56:57 and there wasn't a ridiculous offer
00:57:00 that they walked away from.
00:57:03 Like, if someone said, we'll give you Koen Schaar,
00:57:06 and it'll cost you a second round pick.
00:57:10 Two seconds.
00:57:11 Do the deal.
00:57:12 Yeah.
00:57:12 Do the deal.
00:57:13 But if they're saying, it'll cost you two second round
00:57:16 picks and a future first, we're good.
00:57:20 Thanks, but no.
00:57:21 And some teams do.
00:57:22 I know Oklahoma City valued Kenrick Williams at that price
00:57:26 for a while there.
00:57:27 And some teams just hold a hard bargain for their players.
00:57:31 They really like their guys, and they need
00:57:33 people on a way to move off them.
00:57:34 And they have no urgency to move Koen Schaar.
00:57:36 I think he signed three years.
00:57:38 So that's how it goes.
00:57:40 You're either going to be looking at an expiring guy
00:57:42 who's very cheap, and that's a limited number of guys,
00:57:46 or a buyout guy.
00:57:48 And at the end of the day, we make a big deal
00:57:50 about it every season.
00:57:52 No buyout guys help, realistically.
00:57:54 Like, who's the last buyout guy who really swung a team?
00:57:57 Karrad.
00:57:58 I can't think of one.
00:57:59 I just-- I remember years ago, there was this huge thing
00:58:04 about Troy Murphy.
00:58:06 Troy Murphy, I was going to say.
00:58:07 He's like the poster child for bad buyouts.
00:58:10 What happened?
00:58:11 Bad buyouts go wrong.
00:58:12 Troy Murphy.
00:58:13 Michael Finley?
00:58:14 You remember Michael Finley?
00:58:15 Come in here and flip--
00:58:17 Michael Finley.
00:58:18 He was a horrible, great guy.
00:58:20 Great guy.
00:58:21 Loved Troy Murphy.
00:58:22 Notre Dame, that's the guy.
00:58:24 Well, he was a horrible fit in Boston.
00:58:26 Horrible.
00:58:28 Ahmed says Boris--
00:58:29 Well, you know why this happens every year, right, guys?
00:58:31 Because the one time they did it, or maybe the first time,
00:58:33 really, in the sense of a team that had a contending team
00:58:36 already intact, was the year they won it all.
00:58:38 They got Sam Cassell.
00:58:40 They got PJ Brown.
00:58:41 I mean, people were technically retired,
00:58:43 but they got them off the bench.
00:58:45 And they obviously won a championship that year.
00:58:47 But ever since then, that was it.
00:58:49 That was the one time.
00:58:50 Yeah.
00:58:51 It hasn't been easy.
00:58:52 Goran Vrajic last year.
00:58:54 Didn't he go to the Bucs?
00:58:56 Or maybe that was two years ago at this point.
00:58:58 Two years ago.
00:58:58 Yeah.
00:58:59 Yeah.
00:58:59 You have to remember that when guys are bought out,
00:59:02 there's a reason why they're available.
00:59:03 They're done.
00:59:05 Yeah.
00:59:06 Now, Hayward, the Celtics can't acquire him.
00:59:09 But if Hayward becomes available,
00:59:12 and I don't know who's under that second apron,
00:59:14 you have to--
00:59:14 It'll be interesting to see which team gets him.
00:59:16 Yeah, it will.
00:59:17 He could actually be a difference maker for a team,
00:59:19 if he's healthy, of course, which we always--
00:59:21 Yeah.
00:59:22 You're not talking about--
00:59:23 If you've got him slotted to play 15 to 20 minutes a night
00:59:26 for you, and you've got enough talent where
00:59:28 you can justify him having that limited window of playing time,
00:59:32 yeah, he can absolutely help you.
00:59:34 Absolutely.
00:59:35 He'd have to be playing for the Knicks or--
00:59:38 I'm trying to think--
00:59:39 He might wind up playing more than 15 to 20 minutes
00:59:41 if he's with the Knicks.
00:59:43 That could be a team he ends up with.
00:59:45 Miami, I don't think they're over the apron.
00:59:47 So he could end up there, too.
00:59:49 And you know they've got that after the fact bro
00:59:53 man thing going on.
00:59:54 Right, he wanted to go there.
00:59:56 He really wanted to go there.
00:59:57 And yeah, so would not be surprised
00:59:59 if he just goes there.
01:00:01 You spent your career in Utah, Boston, Charlotte,
01:00:06 nice warmer city, but not a great team.
01:00:09 You might as well go enjoy the end at Miami.
01:00:12 If it's the forefront of your career like it is for him,
01:00:15 finishing in Miami, you can do worse.
01:00:17 He does seem like a he, doesn't he?
01:00:18 Of course he can do worse.
01:00:20 Yeah, definitely.
01:00:20 I can't wait to see what the he and sixers do,
01:00:22 because they're just sitting on so many assets.
01:00:25 Those two teams want to do a deal so bad.
01:00:28 Like did one of them get Brogdon?
01:00:30 Did one of them get Hayward?
01:00:32 Neither one of them, well at least Philly,
01:00:34 the one I'm thinking.
01:00:36 They're not willing to put in a big piece.
01:00:38 You know?
01:00:38 I'll tell you what.
01:00:39 You know what, you're ever going to move to Bias Harris,
01:00:42 now's the time.
01:00:43 His stock is not going to get any higher.
01:00:45 That ship has sailed, man.
01:00:46 They waited too long for that.
01:00:47 I think they like him.
01:00:48 He's stuck with him at this point.
01:00:50 Yeah.
01:00:50 He's playing well, though.
01:00:51 That's what I'm saying.
01:00:54 Yeah.
01:00:56 Yeah, but it's that money.
01:00:57 It's just that money.
01:00:58 It is.
01:00:58 It's a problem.
01:00:59 Money, money.
01:01:01 So that's the trade chatter going around, that we're--
01:01:06 We are how many days from the deadline?
01:01:09 15th today?
01:01:11 I was going to ask you that.
01:01:12 The deadline is three weeks from Thursday.
01:01:16 Oh, it's coming up.
01:01:17 Yeah.
01:01:18 It's coming up.
01:01:19 We've got like 23 days.
01:01:22 Do you see any of the--
01:01:23 I mean, we just talked--
01:01:24 you just mentioned Sixers.
01:01:26 Yeah, it comes with a big name.
01:01:28 Do you see Bucks doing anything?
01:01:31 No, they can't.
01:01:32 They have two second round picks.
01:01:34 So maybe they get something small with that.
01:01:36 I don't think they have any B.
01:01:38 What about Atlanta?
01:01:39 You think they move Murray?
01:01:40 That's the big one.
01:01:41 And there does seem to be a lot of momentum.
01:01:43 They're falling apart.
01:01:44 They have a big one tonight.
01:01:45 Yeah.
01:01:46 Unfortunately, they won two first, at least.
01:01:48 Latest you're hearing there is the Nets.
01:01:50 And that makes a lot of sense, because they're
01:01:52 the only suitor that could get the ball in his hands a ton.
01:01:55 Bridge is obviously a guy who can thrive off the ball.
01:01:57 So that makes a lot of sense.
01:01:59 They have a lot to offer.
01:02:00 Maybe they could send one of those Rockets picks.
01:02:04 Just add a playmaker offensively.
01:02:06 And they need one.
01:02:07 It's weird that the Hawks are looking
01:02:09 to disband a little bit here.
01:02:11 I guess just rework around Young.
01:02:13 They've tried to do that a couple of times.
01:02:15 And he was obviously the big move they made.
01:02:17 Spurs interested in Murray, too, which would be weird.
01:02:20 But it does look like the Nets are kind of that emerging big
01:02:23 suitor right now.
01:02:24 Knicks are in the mix.
01:02:25 I don't think he makes sense there.
01:02:27 He'd just be playing off ball like he was next to Young.
01:02:31 Lakers, same thing.
01:02:32 They need shooting.
01:02:33 He's not much of a shooter.
01:02:35 So I think he's going to end up with the Nets.
01:02:39 There you go.
01:02:40 Well, once again, guys, we want to thank HelloFresh

01:03:07 In our bonus NFL talk tonight is the news that just dropped.
01:03:12 No, it's not that the Eagles are now down even more than they
01:03:15 were.
01:03:15 I hate you, Jimmy.
01:03:16 [LAUGHTER]
01:03:17 That's not the news.
01:03:18 [LAUGHTER]
01:03:21 We're not going to talk about that.
01:03:23 You know it was on your mind, too.
01:03:23 We've said too much about Sharras,
01:03:25 but we're not going to talk about the Eagles blowing
01:03:27 this one and possibly firing Nick Sirianni after this.
01:03:29 We'll see.
01:03:30 If they do, there is a coach that is actively
01:03:33 interviewing right now.
01:03:34 His name is Bill Belichick.
01:03:36 And this wasn't a report.
01:03:37 This was right from the team.
01:03:39 This is the team.
01:03:40 The team just--
01:03:41 That never happens.
01:03:42 Look at us, everybody.
01:03:44 We just interviewed Bill Belichick.
01:03:45 We got Bill to interview.
01:03:46 We got Bill to interview.
01:03:48 Woo-hoo!
01:03:49 This is like the ugly freshman in high school going out
01:03:56 on a date with the prom queen and then
01:03:58 telling everybody in school the next day,
01:04:00 like, yeah, I went on a date with the prom queen.
01:04:02 Yeah, I'm with a good point.
01:04:04 He says that Bill actually interviewed the Falcons.
01:04:07 Bill's on his tour.
01:04:09 The biggest creation coach ever.
01:04:11 The Falcons think that they interviewed Bill,
01:04:13 but it was actually Bill interviewing him.
01:04:14 I know, right?
01:04:15 What are they going to interview him about?
01:04:17 [LAUGHTER]
01:04:18 So yeah, Bill is just taking a pretty impressive resume.
01:04:23 Looks like you got here--
01:04:24 you got-- like, what's that?
01:04:27 What's that interview process?
01:04:28 You got any references?
01:04:29 [LAUGHTER]
01:04:31 Get some references.
01:04:34 Yeah, oh my god, that's too funny.
01:04:35 What do you guys think?
01:04:36 Is it-- I'll be honest.
01:04:38 It's not fun.
01:04:39 I mean, I know it's been the rumor for a while.
01:04:42 I just can't picture Belichick in Atlanta.
01:04:45 I just think it's a whiff organization.
01:04:47 It's this name organization that--
01:04:49 I thought Belichick murdered that organization
01:04:52 a couple years ago.
01:04:53 No, this is the--
01:04:54 to me, this is the team to get all the other teams riled up
01:04:57 and thinking that, you know what, let me take a shot at them.
01:05:00 But sorry, go ahead, Shru.
01:05:01 No, I was going to say, I wouldn't be surprised
01:05:03 if Dallas made a decision on their head coach
01:05:05 and cut him loose that they reached out to Bill.
01:05:08 That wouldn't surprise me.
01:05:10 That's such a Jerry Jones kind of move to do.
01:05:13 But would Jerry Jones and Bill Belichick be able to--
01:05:15 That's a good question, because the job's obviously amazing.
01:05:19 They would not.
01:05:21 It would be great for the media, because you're
01:05:24 going to have so much--
01:05:28 so many issues.
01:05:29 Pull and tug, yeah.
01:05:30 And there was obviously that New England at the end too,
01:05:32 but not to this degree.
01:05:34 And if you're Jones--
01:05:36 Both those guys go in with mutual--
01:05:38 like, they both have a lot to gain by allowing each other
01:05:41 to do their things.
01:05:42 And so that's what I was going to say.
01:05:44 The Cowboys have lost so much at this point.
01:05:46 They've had so many bad coaches.
01:05:49 Maybe if you're Jones, you take a back seat
01:05:52 and put your ego aside and let Bill run things.
01:05:54 I don't know if that's going to happen.
01:05:56 They must have some kind of relationship.
01:05:58 They've both been involved in the NFL for 50 years,
01:06:00 and I'm sure that they've come across each other and all
01:06:02 that stuff.
01:06:04 I don't think Bill's trying to find a better roster to win.
01:06:07 If Bill's trying to--
01:06:08 That's what I'm saying.
01:06:10 --set the record for wins, right,
01:06:12 and make another Super Bowl run.
01:06:14 I just don't know if Atlanta--
01:06:15 Yeah, give it two shots or whatever.
01:06:17 I don't know if Atlanta's the place
01:06:18 to go about doing that, unless he's planning on coaching there
01:06:21 for five years and turning the whole thing around.
01:06:23 They need a quarterback.
01:06:25 They've got some pieces there.
01:06:26 But I mean, again, I don't want to bring this up,
01:06:30 but Philly could be looking for a coach soon.
01:06:33 There's a couple of organizations and teams
01:06:35 that might be good or better matches for Belichick.
01:06:38 It is weird to hear that he's interviewing for--
01:06:42 it's like the breakup.
01:06:43 Oh, is she already dating somebody else already?
01:06:47 It's only been two days, and she's already
01:06:48 dating somebody else?
01:06:50 Whoa.
01:06:51 So it is kind of strange to hear that.
01:06:54 Yeah, exactly, Jimmy.
01:06:55 This is that--
01:06:56 Whoa.
01:06:57 There he is.
01:06:58 This is the one to get the other ones jealous.
01:07:00 It's like the rebound, the rebound.
01:07:03 Yeah, you think so?
01:07:03 So Josue, is Atlanta the team, or is this just the first--
01:07:06 Nah, this is just the rebound.
01:07:08 He's just flaring a little bit.
01:07:09 Yeah, he's--
01:07:10 Getting back on the field.
01:07:12 Yeah, Belichick's getting back in the game.
01:07:14 He's warming up.
01:07:15 He hasn't been on a date in 20 years.
01:07:18 But I think Bob Kraft is thinking, man,
01:07:20 Atlanta would be cool.
01:07:21 No, I'm just kidding.
01:07:22 Bob Kraft would be very happy if he chose Atlanta.
01:07:25 I'll tell you what, nobody wants to build a--
01:07:29 Even Meek Mill might pull up if that was the case.
01:07:32 Yeah.
01:07:33 What team's coming to New England first?
01:07:35 That's who he really needs to end up on.
01:07:37 Meek Mill's a Philly guy.
01:07:39 But nobody-- trust me, Bob Kraft does not
01:07:42 want Bill going to Dallas.
01:07:43 He does not want to see Bill holding up a Lombardi trophy.
01:07:47 A silver trophy, yeah.
01:07:48 After Brady, I mean, you can't--
01:07:50 Bill will have one in Capone.
01:07:52 Legacy talk starts to shift towards the Krafts here.
01:07:56 I think if that happens--
01:07:57 Can I just say real quick, right?
01:07:58 So it's where the end of the podcast with Max.
01:08:00 He's going on and on about how Bill Belichick better not
01:08:03 go to some team just to get the all-time record,
01:08:06 just 'cause and all that.
01:08:07 So then finally I go, Max, what if he goes to Dallas?
01:08:10 Max is a huge Cowboys fan.
01:08:11 Oh.
01:08:12 All of a sudden he--
01:08:13 There's a smile on his face.
01:08:15 Little by little, he was like--
01:08:17 Every Cowboys fan must be dreaming of this right now.
01:08:19 He goes, I never thought about that.
01:08:21 And like, guys, check it out.
01:08:23 Like the last 10 minutes of the show,
01:08:24 it's going to come up next episode.
01:08:26 It's just he couldn't stop smiling.
01:08:27 He couldn't stop thinking about it.
01:08:28 It's hilarious.
01:08:29 How can Max be a Cowboys fan?
01:08:31 That is just crazy.
01:08:32 I always say it's the people who fell in love with that era.
01:08:34 They just couldn't let it go.
01:08:35 Charlotte, North Carolina didn't have a team back then.
01:08:40 Right, that too.
01:08:41 But I just mean, he's been in New England for so long,
01:08:43 though.
01:08:44 Yeah, they got their team in '95 or something like that,
01:08:46 right?
01:08:46 That's a good point, Bobby.
01:08:47 Big truth for a non-factor when he got here.
01:08:50 Like, yeah.
01:08:50 Yeah, the Panthers started in like the mid-'90s, yeah.
01:08:53 All right, guys.
01:08:54 We're going to let you all go.
01:08:56 Sherrod, thank you for joining us.
01:08:57 Josue, thank you.
01:08:58 Bobby, thank you.
01:08:59 Run Binama Wednesday.
01:09:01 Wimby Wednesday.
01:09:03 Please let him be available.
01:09:04 It's that one shot to see him.
01:09:06 I know he's been resting here or there.
01:09:08 They have a couple of nights off after the game today.
01:09:10 So please, please be available.
01:09:14 That would be a killer if he wasn't.
01:09:17 But he'll be in the building, I'm sure, either way.
01:09:20 And I think just looking at a guy like that, it's just like--
01:09:24 No, we want to see him play.
01:09:25 Yeah, I know.
01:09:26 Get out there.
01:09:27 You got to get him out there.
01:09:28 Got to get him out.
01:09:28 He's going to do at least one thing in that game that just
01:09:31 blows your mind.
01:09:32 He's going to get dunked on.
01:09:35 Oh, maybe Jaylen Brown's--
01:09:36 I'm going to call right now.
01:09:36 Jaylen will dunk on him.
01:09:38 Maybe Jaylen Brown's saving up.
01:09:39 That's why he didn't play.
01:09:41 That's a great problem.
01:09:42 Bobby's so quiet right now.
01:09:44 Speaking of--
01:09:45 He's going to try to.
01:09:47 Speaking of Bill, I think, fortunately,
01:09:49 Popovich is kind of pulling a Bill down there with the Spurs.
01:09:54 Yeah, I mean, he did a--
01:09:56 I forget exactly what he said.
01:09:58 I texted someone about it.
01:10:00 He did one of those timeout interviews.
01:10:02 And I know he's always a little short with those.
01:10:05 But they were down like 30 early.
01:10:07 And he was like, the offense is pretty poor.
01:10:10 And from what I've seen, the defense matches that.
01:10:13 Talking about his team.
01:10:15 Well, he's going to be-- he's always been blunt.
01:10:17 So that's not going to change.
01:10:18 Great new chaser.
01:10:20 Yeah, exactly.
01:10:21 Yeah, Popovich has always been compared to Belichick
01:10:24 in those different sports, similar mindsets, and success
01:10:27 stories, and all that stuff.
01:10:28 But we shall see how it ends up.
01:10:30 But yeah, Wemby on Wednesday.
01:10:32 We will be here after the game.
01:10:33 So we hope that you guys all join us.
01:10:35 Thanks again to everyone who hung out with us tonight
01:10:39 after the Celtics take down the Raptors.
01:10:41 What was it, 107-96, something like that?
01:10:44 Join us tomorrow.
01:10:46 We're doing a 1230 Garn Report.
01:10:47 Going to have a Raptors guest on,
01:10:49 talk a little bit about them in this game here.
01:10:51 So stay tuned for that.
01:10:53 We got a bonus show tomorrow.
01:10:55 We got Joe Suiz podcast, which--
01:10:57 We got a podcast coming out tomorrow.
01:10:58 Gerard, you got anything coming down the pipe?
01:11:01 Yeah, we'll have a podcast either Wednesday or Thursday.
01:11:04 All right, be on the lookout for that.
01:11:06 And I'm just going to be chilling, so you might see me.
01:11:09 Jimmy John podcast.
01:11:10 Yeah, yeah, be on the lookout for that.
01:11:13 All right, thank you guys.
