One motorcyclist was killed and 11 others were injured in separate accidents which happened during the 18th Annual Lake to the Sea Motorcycle Trail Ride, held near Milton in Otago region, South Island of New Zealand, on Saturday, 31 October 2020.

The victim was Lindsay Roy, 52-year-old, from Riversdale, New Zealalnd. He was one of 870 mixed-capacity riders taking part in the event, a fundraiser for Tokomairiro High School. All the participants set off on trail bikes and ATVs at 09h30 o'clock, in sunny and dry conditions for an approximately 140-kilometer (87-mile) ride from Milburn to Toko Mouth and return, with a mixture of forestry and farmland. The riders took three separate trails, one for advanced riders, one for open riders and one for juniors.

Details of the fatal accident remained still uncertain. Shortly after midday, while traveling on one of the event’s graveled forestry sections, several riders stopped their bikes and ran up to help a kid prone in the road near by his machine, after an accident. Seconds later, someone pointed out another bike lying about halfway down the six-meter bank. It was Lindsay Roy's motorcycle. It is believed the adult rider and the junior had collided.

Lindsay Roy suffered injuries from which he died. A well-known contract digger in the area, he was an experienced rider.
