00:34 - In the case of Tom and Eldredge,

00:37 they're the same person in a lot of ways,

00:40 and they've had a difficult past together.

00:43 - You can't work with people.

00:44 Can't get along.

00:46 - You know why I fish?

00:49 Because when I'm out at sea, every asshole disappears.

00:54 - Ben Foster plays Tom.

00:57 He's absolutely incredible.

00:58 He's just fascinating to watch.

01:00 He's got this volatile--

01:02 - --almost unhinged quality about him that he shares with Tom.

01:07 - Whoa, whoa, whoa!

01:08 - Charlie, you set us up!

01:10 - Tom was a bit of a guide for Charlie.

01:12 I want to go fishing.

01:13 - Why?

01:14 - I'm curious.

01:15 - Curious about what, Charlie?

01:17 - I love Toby.

01:19 He's kind of hard not to.

01:22 - Mabel!

01:22 - Charlie!

01:24 - They're both kind of in the same place in life,

01:26 trying to move past what they've been raised as

01:29 or what they've been doing in the past.

01:32 - This is where I'm from, right?

01:34 It's not where I'm going.

01:35 - OK.

01:36 - We got Jenna Ortega.

01:38 I always say she's a Navy SEAL of the cast,

01:40 because she just comes in, bangs away, and leaves no prisoners

01:44 and walks off in two takes.

01:45 - I'll tell you when to stop.

01:47 - I'm not your father, Charlie.

01:49 I'm that son of a bitch Ray Eldridge everybody

01:51 tries to steer clear of.

01:52 - Tommy Lee Jones, you're getting

01:54 to paint with a master painter.

01:57 And I've admired his work for years.

01:59 - Tommy did a scene the other day where he gets out of the car

02:02 and as he's getting out of the car, he says, finest kind.

02:04 He did it like, the finest kind.

02:08 And everyone went, oh, that's how you say it.

02:09 - Finest kind.

02:11 - That's exactly how you say it.

02:14 - When I read the script, I just said,

02:16 I need to get out there.

02:17 - I've never fished a day in my life.

02:19 The first time that I got on the boat to do some training,

02:21 it was docked.

02:23 And I got seasick.

02:26 - I thought it would be invaluable

02:28 if several members of the cast at least went to sea

02:31 and learned a little bit about what it was like.

02:34 - It was an adventure.

02:35 And struggling with the elements out there.

02:37 - Green water's coming over the ship.

02:39 People are sliding around.

02:42 - It was crazy.

02:42 It was this experience that I'll never forget.

02:45 And at times, it was a nightmare.

02:47 - We're all losing it.

02:48 - But that experience definitely bonded us together,

02:51 which I think is an important aspect of our character

02:53 in the movie and our chemistry together.

02:56 - It's been amazing.

02:56 We all form a really, really good relationship

02:58 and connection.

03:00 - There's just really good chemistry between everybody.

03:04 - They're very playful, but very, very good at what they do

03:08 and very respectful.

03:10 - Brian is really great because he trusts us

03:12 to kind of take our characters to where we have to take them.

03:15 - And really wants to give actors the space

03:17 to do what they need to do.

03:19 - Being surrounded by so much commitment

03:22 and talent, it takes it to another level.

03:25 We become engines for each other.

03:29 - The rhythm of a scene in this movie

03:31 is discovered by actors as they play that scene.

03:36 The scene is born alive.
