Beatrix Potter's The Tailor of Gloucester (1989)

A poor tailor is given the chance of a lifetime one Christmas when he is hired by the town Mayor to make him a coat for his upcoming wedding in a few days. But while attempting to finish the coat, he falls ill, leading to the mice who he showed kindness to one time to return the favour...

This is from one of my old video tapes, and is from it's original broadcast when it was shown on ITV on December 28th 1989, complete with it's original adverts. It stars Ian Holm as the tailor, with Barrie Ingram, Thora Hird, Benjamin Luxom and Francois Testory in support. But the main interest will be a young Jude Law in one of his earliest screen appearances before he became famous. Indeed, I do not believe this story by Beatrix Potter has ever been shown since it's broadcast in 1989, so is a rare programme in itself and fortunate that my family recorded it when they did! Merry Christmas!
