Tributes paid to two NSW firefighters after their deaths

The paid and volunteer firefighting communities in New South Wales are united in grief today after two deaths in 24 hours.

00:08 In Moama, near the border of Victoria and New South Wales, a Rural Fire Service volunteer

00:14 died after suffering a medical episode while responding to a car fire yesterday afternoon.

00:20 His fellow crew members tried to perform medical assistance before paramedics arrived, but

00:25 he died at the scene.

00:26 Earlier yesterday, another firefighter was killed while responding to a large house fire

00:31 at Grose Vale on the north-western outskirts of Sydney.

00:36 The 51-year-old Michael Kidd was hit by a falling beam inside the burning home.

00:41 Mr Kidd is being remembered as a kind and selfless man who devoted himself to his community.

00:47 He was a decorated firefighter who'd helped protect his community during the Black Summer

00:52 fires.

00:53 Fire Premier Chris Mins has also paid tribute, saying "To take on a job like this takes true

00:58 bravery and it's a debt that we can't even begin to repay."
