00:03 In Venezuela, people march in support
00:12 of President Nicolás Maduro's plan of action on the Ezequiel.
00:15 In Guatemala, the president-elect, Fernando Arevalo,
00:21 has labeled the decision of his justice ministry
00:24 as absurd, ridiculous, and a perverse coup d'etat.
00:29 The UN Security Council was unable to approve a draft
00:32 resolution on the conflict in the Gaza Strip
00:34 due to a veto by the United States.
00:36 The draft prepared by United Arab Emirates
00:38 called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire
00:41 and the unconditional release of all hostages.
00:43 Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:52 I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Delezuzo Studios
00:55 in Havana, Cuba.
00:57 We begin with the news.
00:58 And we're going to begin in Venezuela.
01:00 The President Nicolás Maduro Moros
01:03 led the march for Loyalty Day as the people demonstrated
01:06 in support of the government's plan of action on the Ezequiel.
01:10 This Friday, on the day of loyalty and love in the country,
01:13 citizens march from Fine Arts to the Palace of Miraflores.
01:16 Demonstrators are shown with the flag of Venezuela,
01:19 banners in defense of the Ezequiel,
01:21 and the new map of the nation implemented in schools.
01:24 The government of Venezuela seeks
01:26 to incorporate the organic law to create
01:28 the state of Guayana Ezequiel and the election of authorities
01:31 in the region.
01:32 President Maduro and Executive Vice President
01:35 participated in the event.
01:37 During his speech, the Venezuelan head of state
01:39 took the opportunity to demand once again
01:41 the coercive measures against the Venezuelan people be lifted.
01:44 Venezuela's National Assembly unveiled on Friday
01:54 the new map of the nation that includes the Guayana Ezequiel
01:57 as its 24th state.
01:58 During the session, the President of the National
02:01 Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, emphasized
02:03 that it is a map that represents,
02:04 with justice and accuracy, the historical reality
02:07 of the country since the times of the liberator Simon Bolívar.
02:11 He also emphasized the participation
02:13 of the Venezuelan people in the defense of national sovereignty.
02:16 The action is part of nine measures announced
02:18 by the head of state, Nicolás Maduro,
02:20 after the victory of the consultative referendum
02:22 of December 3rd.
02:23 This is the map that the liberator Simon Bolívar
02:33 bequeathed to us.
02:34 It is the map liberated by his word.
02:36 A map that we have to take care of,
02:42 as we have to take care of every inch of that sovereign
02:45 territory, every space of its sacred sky,
02:51 and also take care of our rivers, our seas,
02:54 especially the exit of Venezuela to the Atlantic Ocean.
02:57 On the other hand, the President of the National Assembly
03:02 stressed that present time is a reminder for the nation
03:06 to never surrender to foreign interests.
03:08 Let the green map remain as a hope,
03:13 a map that has been so hard to defend and preserve,
03:16 also as a reminder, a reminder to stay in this room.
03:19 So that no Venezuelan, man or woman,
03:22 puts himself or herself at the orders of foreign interests
03:25 or transnational oil companies, of foreign governments
03:33 that have acted against the people
03:35 and against the territory of the Bolivarian Republic
03:37 of Venezuela.
03:38 This is the map that the President of the National
03:45 Assembly bequeathed to us.
03:46 And it's a reminder to the nation that we have to defend
03:49 and defend our own territory.

08:38 And once again, most of the victims turned out to be women and children.
08:42 Correspondent Noor Harassin brings us the latest details from Gaza.
08:46 These are Gaza's morning.
08:52 One morning we wake on the bodies of those who were killed overnight.
08:57 And the other morning we wake up in the hospital between the people who got injured.
09:02 Of course, as usual, mostly children and women.
09:06 Here I am inside the Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital, where this morning the Israeli forces targeted
09:11 several places in Deir el-Balah, Al-Nusayrah refugee camp and Al-Bureij camp.
09:16 And here is a sense of what is happening in the hospital.
09:20 Here is who are most of the people injured in this Israeli attack.
09:25 Children.
09:27 Where did you come from?
09:39 Where did the shelling come from?
09:43 It was under the neighbor's house.
09:47 In the neighborhood of Asmawan.
09:51 So their home is next to Asalam neighborhood in Deir el-Balah.
10:00 Again, this area was not ordered to evacuate from the people, were not ordered to evacuate
10:08 from those areas.
10:09 But again, and as we said before, a safe area mean only that less people could get killed.
10:17 Here is in Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital, people talked about more than 30 people that were
10:24 killed on one, as like on a family overnight.
10:28 And the continuous Israeli bombardment here in Deir el-Balah, Al-Bureij camp and also
10:36 other refugee camps inside middle Gaza, which is considered, middle Gaza is actually considered
10:42 a safe area here in Gaza.
10:44 Nur Harazin, Tirisur, Gaza.
10:46 The United States vetoed on Friday a United Nations Security Council resolution that would
10:52 have called for an immediate ceasefire in the intense fight between Israel and Hamas
10:56 in Gaza.
10:57 The veto took place after the Security Council held an emergency meeting to discuss the catastrophic
11:02 situation in Gaza.
11:04 The United States Deputy Representative at the UN, Robert Wood, said the resolution was
11:08 divorced from reality and would be a recipe for disaster.
11:12 This follows Wednesday's urgent letter by Secretary General António Guterres urging
11:17 the party to help end what he called a "carnage in the world border enclave" through a lasting
11:22 humanitarian ceasefire.
11:24 In the votes on the proposal, 13 members, including China and Russia, spoke in favor,
11:28 while the UK abstained and the US was the only one to oppose.
11:39 Israeli troops forced Palestinian citizens to leave United Nations shelters in the Gaza
11:43 Strip.
11:43 The United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees denounced that it evacuated four of its shelters
11:48 in the town of Khan Younis, south of Gaza, by order of the Israeli army.
11:52 The agency said that more than one million Palestinians have been displaced from the
11:56 94 centers belonging to the agency.
11:59 Since the beginning of the siege, the agency has registered a total of 129 attacks against
12:04 its facilities and at least 276 people displaced by the occupation army forces.
12:09 Between 200 and 300 Israelis gathered on Friday in front of the tent set up near the Neset,
12:22 where the families of those killed and kidnapped on October 7th are holding vigils in a protest
12:26 to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
12:30 The protests follow an alleged attempt to set fire overnight to the facility where several
12:34 people were sleeping.
12:35 Organizers of the demonstration detailed that authorities are investigating the incident
12:41 and that the tent was put up with all the necessary authorizations from the power company.
12:46 Before the start of the conflict with Hamas, Netanyahu had faced months of protests over
12:50 his controversial judicial reform that gives the government decisive influence in the selection
12:55 of judges, limiting the Supreme Court's scope to strike down laws or rule against
12:59 the executive.
13:00 Thousands of Yemenis in the Houthi rebel-controlled capital of Sana'a demonstrated on Friday
13:13 in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
13:15 We continue to support Gaza and the Palestinian cause and are ready for all options.
13:25 And we say to the commander that we have authorized you in all the decisions that you implement
13:29 against the Israeli enemy in preventing Israeli ships from entering the Red Sea and the Arabian
13:38 Sea.
13:38 We stand alongside our brothers in Palestine, Gaza and Jerusalem.
13:45 We are stationed in the field of preparation to be mujahideen for the sake of God.
13:52 We have a second short break coming up but before we invite you to join our WhatsApp
13:55 community for our English-speaking audience, you can scan the QR code on screen to join

14:30 Welcome back from the south.
14:32 Over 250 South Sudanese soldiers left from Friday Democratic Republic of the Congo's
14:37 east, the contingent left in three rotations throughout the day, according to a military
14:41 source.
14:42 The soldiers took off from Bukoma bound for Juba.
14:45 Of the Kenyans, the South Sudanese are the latest group from an East African Community
14:49 Regional Force to withdraw from Eastern DRC.
14:52 The regional force includes Uganda and Burundi, who are set to leave in coming weeks.
14:57 The seven-nation EAC first deployed troops in the violence-plagued Eastern DRC in November
15:02 2022.
15:03 They deployed at the invitation of DRC authorities and were tasked with overseeing the withdrawal
15:07 of M23 fighters from Eastern DRC.
15:10 Both DRC's president and local residents accused the force of cohabiting with the rebels,
15:16 rather than forcing them to lay down arms.
15:18 Kinshasa then refused to renew the force's mandate.
15:29 Burundi's Supreme Court sentenced former Prime Minister Alain Guillaume Bonjani to
15:34 life in prison on Friday.
15:36 A judicial source said that he was convicted on charges including attempting to overthrow
15:40 the government, illicit enrichment and destabilizing the economy.
15:44 The former general was named PM in July 2020, then dismissed in September 2022.
15:51 His officer came just days after President Evariste Dayish Shemille warned of a coup
15:55 plot against him.
15:57 The court's seating in session at the prison where Bonjani was detained followed the prosecution's
16:02 request.
16:03 It also ordered the authorities to confiscate four houses and buildings, as well as a land
16:07 parcel and 14 vehicles belonging to Bonjani.
16:10 Five others in the talk, including the two main co-defendants, a police colonel and a
16:15 senior intelligence agent, received sentences ranging from three to 15 years.
16:26 A day ahead of by-election, Zimbabwe's opposition Citizens' Coalition for Change vows to contest
16:32 court rulings that bars all of its contenders from standing in the new votes.
16:36 At a press conference in the capital, Harare, CCC spokesperson, Promise Magwanasi, accuses
16:43 the ruling Sanupiyev party of corrupting the judicial system.
16:47 Our legal team has successfully saved Zeki through the chief of elections, Mr. Otole
16:53 Saiwana, with our appeal and the letter of demand of all our legitimate candidates to
17:01 be included on the ballot for tomorrow's by-election.
17:05 Accordingly, by-elections are proceeding as scheduled with all our candidates on the ballot
17:11 paper.
17:12 We urge all citizens to turn out in their numbers to reconfirm our legitimate candidates
17:19 by re-electing them back into parliament.
17:22 Sanupiyev has contaminated and corrupted our justice system through the criminal abuse
17:29 of the courts.
17:30 They are afraid of proper elections and are using nefarious, albeit failed, attempts to
17:37 remove legitimately nominated candidates from the ballot paper.
17:42 The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization recently inscribed
17:47 the Syrian traditional glass-blowing technique on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
17:52 of Humanity, a decoration the Syrians hope will contribute to consolidating their efforts
17:56 to keep alive this artistic craft that emerged in Syria more than 2,000 years ago.
18:01 Let's watch the following report by our correspondent, Hicham Wanos.
18:08 In the ancient city of Damascus, where the mosque embraced the churches in a true atmosphere
18:13 of peace and harmony, is located the modest glass-blowing workshop of the veteran Syrian
18:20 craftsman, Mohammed al-Alaq, whose family is among the few Syrian families active in this
18:25 field, and that thanks to his dedication and perseverance, he managed to save this ancient
18:31 craftsmanship that dates back to the 9th century B.C. and succeeding in having it inscribed
18:38 on UNESCO's represented list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
18:42 With the support of the Secretary of Syrian Development, after more than two and a half
18:51 years of effort and daily monitoring, we have achieved this dream of inscribing this craftsmanship
18:57 in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, a matter that fills us with pride
19:03 because with this step we are managing to preserve part of our this craftsmanship,
19:07 heritage, and to know that more than 60 years of work have not been in vain.
19:11 This profession was on the verge of disappearing, but thanks to the efforts of veteran Mohammed,
19:21 new generations of glass-blowing artisans were formed and this technique was preserved,
19:27 despite the difficulties resulting from the war and the blockade.
19:31 We have come to the end of this news brief, but before saying goodbye,
19:36 we want to thank our Caribbean audience, especially the audience of Trinidad and Tobago.
19:40 We are pleased to share our newscast and contribute to provide an alternative news
