00:30 Back in the 1890s, there were some trailblazing women who bucked the trend and took up bike

00:38 Those first people that took to the line, they opened the door.

00:42 When women started to race, they were really the pioneers, and it was a much more interesting

00:47 sport to watch because the women could go a lot faster.

00:50 The cycle industry was responsible for a large part of female empowerment.

00:57 Unsung heroines of the 1800s paved the way for some of today's top riders.

01:03 They were the first famous professional women athletes.

01:07 Regarded as one of the toughest ultra-endurance races in the world, the Transcontinental is

01:14 a whopping 4,000-kilometer ride across Europe.

01:18 I could do this. I was good at it. Actually, this was my element.

01:22 That following year, there were 30 women on the start line. It was just so exciting.

01:28 As women throughout history have proved, if you love something, you don't let anything

01:33 stop you from doing it.

01:35 I saw bicycles everywhere, but only boys and men.

01:39 Back then, women don't ride bikes. They just had never crossed that revolution.

01:44 So for about two years, it was kind of steadily growing.

01:48 We're kind of moving towards, can we train for the 2020 Olympics?

01:53 These women have not only embraced the bike, but used it to forge their futures,

01:59 on and off the track.
