It's been 12 months since the Glenroy school fire. How is everything going on at school now?
00:06
Well we had our anniversary this week and it was actually a time for everyone to reflect and
00:13
look at the journey that they've had this year. I was so proud of my staff for being strong,
00:18
being resilient and coming back every day for our kids and knowing their purpose. It was actually
00:25
for me a really positive day to look back and go look how far we've come, look at what we've
00:29
achieved with all the huge impact across the school. I was just like yeah let's go it was
00:35
really good. And what kind of strength have the students showed over the last 12 months?
00:40
So we just inducted our new 2024 student leaders and I would say they're excited for the next
00:49
adventure. I think this new cohort of kids are just like change, adaptability, flexibility,
00:56
just part of life and they're excited for a new kind of changes across the school. So
01:02
they're kind of matching in with that new vibe that they're all bringing across the school like
01:08
renewal, refreshing, lift and shift, all that great stuff. So the kids are feeling that positive
01:16
energy and they're taking it on. They're going to be amazing next year. And how proud are you of
01:21
your students and your fellow staff members? I'm immensely proud. You couldn't ask for a better
01:26
cohort of students and staff. We all you know work together for the common goal which is the
01:31
kids futures. What's been the biggest achievement you've seen at the school since the fire? I think
01:38
how our community supported us and we all came together with the students and our wider community
01:43
and all our parents and our staff and the relationships that we've built through this by
01:48
coming together. How good has it been to see the students continue to grow after such a
01:53
devastating incident? On top of COVID and everything else that's happened for them in
01:58
their very short schooling life, it's been amazing to see how much they've continued to grow and turn
02:04
up every day smiling and ready to learn. So what does the future of Glenroy Heights look like?
02:09
We're very positive here at Glenroy Heights. So the future is positive. So we're looking forward
02:14
to our new build down the track. Very exciting. So it'd be nice to have some fresh infrastructure
02:19
here and the kids are looking forward to it as well. And what have the last 12 months been like
02:25
for you as a teacher? The last 12 months have been challenging. We've had a few issues here at the
02:29
school but again students, staff, community, so resilient. We just get on with the job and
02:35
yeah we come to work every day for the kids here.
