Birmingham headlines 7 December: “hostile takeover” as mayor seizes PCC powers
  • 5 months ago
West Midlands Mayor Andy Street will take on the powers of the Police and Crime Commissioner. He argues it's necessary due to the West Midlands force being in special measures. PCC Simon Foster described the move as a ‘hostile takeover’.

Next and a Black Country resident has spoken out against street racing after two hundred cars turned up outside his home. Local councils, led by Wolverhampton, were granted a High Court order to ban street cruising last year - which includes a jail threat for drivers, riders and passengers.

And finally, the winners of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero award have been announced, and on the list is Hannah Escott from the West Midlands for her work towards creating safe biking spaces for people of all abilities.
