Police and Birmingham City Council trading standards officers talk about their work to keep communities safe during Ramadan

00:00 Hello my name is Chief Inspector Haroun Chukhtai. I'm here to talk to you today

00:03 about Operation Belfray. Operation Belfray is our response to four key

00:07 events connected to the month of Ramadan in Birmingham. The four key events are

00:11 the first one is Coventry Road, the evening activities that we see

00:14 throughout the month of Ramadan. The next two are the night before Eid on Ladypill

00:19 Road and Alamrock Road also known as Jandrat and finally it's the Eid

00:23 prayers at Small Heath Park on Eid day itself. Our overarching approach is one of

00:28 public safety. We've been working closely with our partners and community

00:31 stakeholders to make sure that everybody is safe and also that we minimise the

00:35 impact on residents. My name is Gary Everitt. I'm the Constituency Inspector

00:39 for Ladywood East that covers Small Heath. I'm the lead for the policing

00:42 operation that will be covering the Coventry Road and the markets that take

00:45 place along here. During the month of Ramadan my officers will be out on the

00:49 Coventry Road from three o'clock onwards. We've been working closely with the

00:52 local authority and other partners and we'll be offering reassurance to the local

00:56 community whilst we're here. My name is Tony Quigley. I'm the head of Birmingham

01:01 Trading Standards. During the month of Ramadan we will be working very closely

01:06 with the police and other key partners. We'll be out and about on the Coventry

01:12 Road and we'll be there to reassure the public as well as deal with any illegal

01:19 activity that we see. I'm Neil Kirkpatrick. I'm the Hall Green

01:22 Constituency Inspector and will be in charge of the policing operation for

01:27 Chanraw on the Ladypool Road. I can confirm for the last few months I've

01:31 been working with statutory partners to ensure that the policing operation

01:36 minimises disruption to the local community. We have listened to the

01:40 concerns of local residents and we will be taking a robust approach against

01:44 anti-social behaviour that we see on the night. I'm Inspector Jonathan Beach, local

01:49 policing manager covering the areas of Allan Rock and Washwood Heath. We're

01:53 looking forward to working with partners and the community as we celebrate

01:56 Chanraw. The one message I'd like to give to families and elders is to have

02:02 those conversations with the families to ensure good behaviour in the area and

02:07 that the few don't spoil it for the majority. My name is Jim Carroll. I'm the

02:17 which is at the conclusion of the month. Me and my team will be here to support

02:20 the organisers and provide some reassurance to those attendees and I'd
