00:14 The comedian says that a Thanksgiving hangover

00:16 isn't to blame for his absence,

00:18 but instead a ruptured appendix.

00:20 Colbert shares a message to his viewers

00:24 "Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week."

00:26 I'm sure you're thinking,

00:28 "Turkey overdose, Steve?

00:30 Gravy boat capsize?

00:32 Actually, I'm recovering from surgery

00:34 for a ruptured appendix."

00:36 He goes on to thank his medical team and family

00:38 saying, "I'm grateful to my doctors

00:40 for their care, and to Evie and the kids

00:42 for putting up with me."

00:44 Jokingly adding, "Going forward,

00:46 all emails to my appendix will be

00:48 handled by my pancreas."

00:50 The previously scheduled new episodes

00:52 of The Late Show this week were set to be star-studded,

00:54 with Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann,

00:56 Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer,

00:58 Barbara Streisand, and

01:00 Jean Baptiste all set to appear as guests

01:02 when the show returned from Thanksgiving

01:06 It's been a difficult few months for Colbert,

01:08 who took over The Late Show from David Letterman

01:10 in 2015. Colbert was

01:12 forced to cancel a week's worth of shows

01:14 last month after testing positive for

01:16 COVID-19. He wrote on X at the time,

01:20 orders, I'm going to be out for the rest

01:22 of the week, resting up so that

01:24 I can deliver the handcrafted, artisanal
