00:00Big news in late night television, Stephen Colbert not only canceled, the entire Late Show is canceled.
00:06That show, the Late Show, is going away.
00:09CBS made this announcement late on Thursday, and there's been a lot of emotional reaction to this.
00:17Not from Stephen Colbert, interestingly.
00:20He was actually very complimentary of CBS.
00:23Complimentary to CBS, but the controversy is...
00:26By the way, it's going away at the end of, I think in May of next year.
00:29May next year.
00:30There are a lot of people who think this is because...
00:35Colbert was very vocal on his show and critical of CBS for the settlement they made with...
00:41Donald Trump.
00:42With Donald Trump, a $16 million settlement.
00:46And what's happening behind the scenes is that CBS is trying to get a merger done that...
00:52That needs to be approved by the federal government.
00:54So a lot of people think this was Donald Trump having leverage over Paramount.
00:59And that it was revenge.
01:00And hating Stephen Colbert enough that he said, you either cancel the show or else.
01:06By the way, by the way, when they announced it, Trump did get on Truth Social.
01:12He said, I love that they did this.
01:13I absolutely love that Colbert got fired.
01:16His talent was even less than his ratings.
01:19I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next, has even less talent than Colbert.
01:22Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the moron on NBC who ruined the
01:28once great Tonight Show.
01:29The optics are not good.
01:31He wants this deal to go through with Paramount and Skydance.
01:34The FCC is his FCC, so whether or not that's going to happen.
01:37But of course, Paramount's saying, it's not that.
01:40This is an expensive show.
01:41Well, I believe you.
01:42We don't know the history, you know, like where is linear television going?
01:46They don't really know.
01:47Well, we do know.
01:48Well, we do know.
01:49We know because linear television has had its worst quarter in the history of television this past quarter.
01:56And people are going to YouTube.
01:58You should explain to people what linear television means.
02:00Broadcast TV.
02:01The TV you watch, you know, on the various networks and whatnot, it's going down.
02:06People are migrating to YouTube.
02:07They're going to podcasts.
02:08They're going to other social media platforms.
02:11And so just to give you an example, that's a really expensive show to do.
02:15They have a huge staff.
02:17It's on five days a week.
02:19It's expensive.
02:20It gets a rating of 1.9.
02:23That's around 2 million people every night.
02:28The Gutfeld show on Fox News Channel gets 3 million people.
02:34By comparison.
02:36And a much cheaper show.
02:38Dirt cheap to produce.
02:39So they're getting a million more people for way less money.
02:43And they're losing money on the light show.
02:45So you guys don't think politics has any play in this whatsoever?
02:48It's strictly a financial decision?
02:49I would say this.
02:50Or is there some Trump pressure?
02:51Is it possible that two things can be true?
02:54CBS really is trying to suck up to the Trump administration to get this deal done.
03:00But they also have a show that is really expensive.
03:03Remember that James Corden's show went away last year.
03:07And if it really was Trump, they would just replace Stephen Colbert with a more conservative host.
03:12If that show was actually making money, they would never get rid of it.
03:18Let me explain what the networks care about.
03:22Money.
03:22They're trying to make money.
03:23I don't care about.
03:23I don't care about.
