Pooh Bear's Corner is back and better than ever

Tim the Yowie Man joins a Mayor and Men's Shed members as they spruce up a special spot on the Clyde Mountain in NSW.

00:00 Arguably one of the most well-known landmarks between Canberra and the coast is Pooh's Corner.

00:06 Now earlier this year when the sign at the corner was looking a little bit worse for wear,

00:11 Yirraba Dala Mayor Matthew Hatcher teamed up with the Naroomin Men's Shed to give the sign a bit of a spruce up.

00:28 How proud are you about the Pooh Bears Corner sign getting refurbished right here?

00:32 It's been a pretty good job, lots of interest. What can I say? It's been great, absolutely great.

00:39 And have you been surprised at how much interest there's been in the Pooh Bears Corner sign?

00:43 Yeah, ridiculous. Yeah, absolutely. Never expected it.

00:46 Have you ever driven past the sign yourself?

00:48 On a few occasions, yeah. My family lives in Canberra, so...

00:52 And when you've driven past, have you always looked at the corner or have you sort of been focused more on the road?

00:56 I guess if you're driving. Too busy driving, yeah.

00:58 But now when you go past, you're probably going to have a glance every time, aren't you?

01:01 I've got to put blinkers on so I can't see it.

01:03 Okay. Rose, you're responsible for the artwork on the sign, is that right?

01:08 Yes, that's right.

01:09 Are you a Pooh Bear fan? I am a Pooh Bear fan.

01:12 When I was a child, I remember being read the story and always reading the story to my kids.

01:17 How do you feel that your artwork is going to be able to display?

01:20 Very proud. Very proud. And my son, for the first time, actually said to me the other night that he was very proud of me.

01:26 What was the hardest thing with the artwork?

01:28 Pooh Bear himself, because he had to have several layers, several coats of undercoat, because he's done in a plywood.

01:35 So we had to protect him. And then several coats of his art colour.

01:40 Then, in late September this year, with much excitement, the revamped sign was unveiled.

01:52 So are you surprised at how much interest the sign has created?

01:56 Yeah, it's obviously very sentimental to both kids and their parents and their grandparents.

02:02 It's something, I guess, travellers up and down the highway to Canberra, to the coast, have seen for many years.

02:06 So it's great to have an association come on board and do this.

02:10 It's been great to see the feedback from everyone online as well.

02:14 It's been shared, obviously community shared. It's fantastic that David and Rose and the whole team there have come on board,

02:21 partnered up with Council, I guess, to get this project underway and to deliver it so quickly.

02:26 It's obviously very busy today on the road and it's going to be a great weekend.

02:29 Obviously very hot, so everyone get down from Canberra and come and visit the coast.
