Flavio Agradi's Fatal Crash @ Rallye de Tunisie 1999 (Aftermath)

Flavio Agradi crashed 249 kilometers after the start of the third stage of the 1999 Rallye de Tunisie, from Tabarka, nearly the Algerian border, to the oasis of Tamerza, in the South-West of the country. He went off the track at a fast bend and fell into a ravine, being killed almost instantly. At the moment of the accident Agradi was sixth in the rally.

Agradi had already won the Rallye de Tunisie in 1993. It was an impressive victory, Flavio Agradi raced as a privateer riding a 1992 Honda XR600R prepared by Emanuele Cristanelli, on a field of 121 starters, including a number of factory riders such as Jordi Arcarons, Ciro de Petri, Amez Olivier, Fabrizio Meoni, Heinz Kinigardner, Thierry Magnaldi and many others. The following year Flavio Agradi was hired by team Gilera as works rider, but did not finish the event. The 1994 Rallye de Tunisie was marred by the death of Angelo Cavandoli, during the fourth stage.

Agradi worked as a stomatologist. Beside being a successful enduro rider, he was also a top-level cross-country skier. He was survived by his wife Roberta and two daughters, Brenda and Micole.

An annual trophy dedicated to the memory of Flavio Agradi was awarded to the winner of the last stage of the Rally of Sardinia, and also a cross-country ski race was named after him.
