(dramatic music)
00:02
- Taking it from sort of the model aspect to,
00:22
you know, just general people
00:24
and how your collection always can apply to that,
00:26
especially with something like what you do with Ola.
00:29
It's about the colors as I see, you know,
00:31
it's about blending.
00:32
Could you talk about sort of that approach
00:35
from your mindset as far as creatively
00:38
and finding out what works,
00:39
but also what can be practically done?
00:41
- Yeah, I mean, I think the serum in the bottle itself
00:45
was like very inspiring.
00:47
It already has this beautiful,
00:49
like kind of iridescent quality.
00:51
So I pulled everything from that, that inspired.
00:54
The pearls in our bag,
00:55
the beautiful pink of our kind of slides,
00:57
even this kind of purple essence moment
01:00
that the bottle had, you know, really inspired the rose,
01:03
which I wanted it to be, you know,
01:04
have that kind of quality too.
01:06
But then again, like serum being a fabulous,
01:09
smooth, supple, great product,
01:10
everything has that touch and feel.
01:13
So you kind of get all the senses in the pieces,
01:15
which I thought was very important.
01:17
(upbeat music)
01:20
,
01:25
- But it's also the way everything feels
01:38
and the way, you know,
01:39
it makes somebody feel as part of the whole thing.
01:42
Could you talk about that?
01:43
Because, you know, fashion and, you know,
01:45
skincare and everything for everybody
01:47
is as much a mental thing.
01:48
And then it sort of just adds,
01:50
can you sort of talk about sort of that yin and yang?
01:51
- Yeah, yeah, it's so true.
01:53
You know, you want to feel great in what you're wearing
01:57
or what you're putting on your face.
01:58
It needs to make you feel good.
02:00
So that was like, when we were doing our slides,
02:01
I was like, no, they need to be comfortable
02:03
that you can wear these all day.
02:04
Like I want my robe,
02:06
I want people to like cozy up in this robe
02:08
and like watch TV and feel good about themselves.
02:10
I mean, that's kind of what it's all about.
02:12
This whole holiday season,
02:13
we want people to like actually take self-care,
02:15
take a moment to themselves,
02:17
try to feel good.
02:18
If you're doing your skin regimen every night,
02:20
then be cozy in a little Suriano piece
02:23
while you're doing it.
02:24
- What do you suggest as far as like,
02:26
skin, you know, everything in New York is different
02:29
than obviously LA and London.
02:31
You know, what kind of approach would you take
02:33
in terms of skin regimen?
02:34
What do you find works for your clients,
02:37
for the people you talk to just to do that kind of stuff?
02:40
- I mean, that's actually a big part
02:41
why I wanted to work with a serum
02:43
because I'd never even really used a serum
02:45
and this serum is incredible.
02:48
So I think it's like, obviously one of those things,
02:50
everybody's gonna have their regimen
02:51
and everybody's gonna have those things that they love.
02:53
But I think now a serum is very important.
02:55
I think everybody should use it.
02:57
Everybody should try it.
02:59
I have oily skin, it worked for me.
03:00
So I'm gonna say it's gonna work for you.
03:02
- When you, as far as, you know,
03:04
'cause your path has been great just to ask about that
03:06
'cause you know, what people need
03:08
and how the trends go sort of transforms every year.
03:11
Is there a certain thing going into this year
03:13
that you found either, you know,
03:14
obviously from the makeup point of view,
03:16
but also the fashion point of view
03:18
that people should be aware of,
03:19
or is it just sort of do your own thing in certain ways?
03:23
- Yeah, I mean, I think it's just about
03:25
celebrating yourself, celebrating beauty.
03:27
I think that's kind of where we are going
03:29
and hope we're going there.
03:31
I think people need to kind of take a beat for themselves
03:33
and just like celebrate what you got
03:36
and celebrate the body you're in, the skin that you have.
03:38
And I think that that's a big goal,
03:41
I think for a lot of people that at least we work with.
03:44
And I hope that everyone is.
03:45
(upbeat music)
03:48
- Can you talk about like, obviously beauty concept,
04:05
you know, 'cause beauty concept as far as, you know,
04:07
how people wear, how people do things.
04:10
You know, you've worked with so many different celebrities
04:12
over the years and sort of led the pack.
04:14
Can you sort of talk about,
04:15
'cause obviously it looks like comfort
04:16
and sort of that sort of smooth look is it.
04:19
But what have you found and how does that sort of,
04:22
again, reflect in the collection?
04:24
- Yeah, I mean, I think we really wanted this collection
04:26
to be comfortable, to feel plush and supple on your body.
04:30
That was very important.
04:31
And I think that that's important
04:33
when you're kind of taking a break and kind of relaxing.
04:36
I mean, lots of people that I dress,
04:38
I don't know if it's always about comfort
04:39
when we're on a red carpet,
04:41
but I think when you get home,
04:43
hopefully people use the serum, get in the robe,
04:45
get in your slides and call it a day.
04:47
Like that's what we want.
04:48
- Can you talk about the design specifically of this?
04:51
You know, how it's transformed,
04:53
how it evolved from what you first thought
04:55
and how it got to the point it is now with these different,
04:58
'cause there are different elements between the robe,
05:00
between the slippers, between the bags,
05:02
all these different things.
05:02
- Yeah, I mean, and the robe is really cool
05:04
'cause it kind of has my signature logos on it.
05:06
So we wanted that to feel kind of bold and powerful.
05:09
And also like a fashion piece.
05:10
So you're not just wearing any robe that you can buy.
05:13
The same with the bag.
05:14
The bag has a beautiful little chain inside.
05:16
So you could really wear this as a purse if you want.
05:19
It's easy to carry.
05:20
I love that it kind of feels like a purse.
05:22
I think it's just kind of fabulous.
05:24
And the slides, I just was like,
05:26
it's hard to find a cute slipper that actually looks cute.
05:30
So we wanted something that felt like
05:32
hopefully a lot of people would want to wear.
05:33
- The colors, obviously the color integrates
05:35
with the serum.
05:36
But can you talk about that?
05:37
Because the thing is, a couple of years ago,
05:40
even like 15 years ago,
05:41
you couldn't make these colors come out this specific.
05:45
So it's all about that sort of color coordination.
05:47
Can you talk about that?
05:48
'Cause that's a big thing here too.
05:49
- Yeah, and a big part,
05:51
I love that the bottle was pearlescent.
05:52
So I knew I wanted to have pearl elements
05:55
on some of the pieces.
05:56
And I knew I wanted iridescent quality.
05:58
So we have that in our bag here.
06:00
And I just love the,
06:01
you get a lot of colors in this bottle in itself.
06:05
So I think that that was very important
06:06
to bring in tone.
06:07
So there's pink tones, there's purple tones,
06:09
there's lavender.
06:10
You kind of get all those.
06:12
So I guess that was more inspiring from the actual bottle.
06:16
But then I just also was really just inspired
06:18
by the people that I hope are gonna wear these.
06:21
That is sometimes my ultimate inspiration.
06:23
The people that are gonna be at home,
06:25
how are they gonna feel in these slides,
06:27
in this robe, carrying this bag?
06:29
We want them to feel good.
06:30
(upbeat music)
06:33
(upbeat music)
06:35
(upbeat music)
06:38
(upbeat music)
06:41
(upbeat music)
06:43
(upbeat music)
06:46
(upbeat music)
06:48
(upbeat music)
06:51
(upbeat music)
06:52
- You know, you were talking about
06:54
seeing what people are doing and they're your inspiration.
06:57
So you're very much an observer
06:58
and you travel so many places.
07:00
You talk to so many people.
07:01
Can you talk about what inspires you,
07:03
how you're inspired either by travel,
07:05
either by seeing people in the street, what they're doing
07:08
or seeing people at these events?
07:09
Can you talk about inspiration in your current life,
07:12
looking at what you do?
07:14
- Yeah, I mean, that's really what it is.
07:16
It's to be inspired is looking
07:18
and being open-minded in the world.
07:21
I see everything.
07:22
I've traveled to every country all over the world.
07:25
And I think always just be open-minded.
07:28
I never know what can inspire me next.
07:31
That's kind of what's exciting about it and great.
07:33
And I never know what I'm gonna dream up next.
07:36
And I think, I love it that people,
07:39
I was just in Dallas a day ago
07:41
and those women are very different than the New York woman.
07:44
And the New York woman is different than the LA woman.
07:46
I was just in LA.
07:47
It's so, that's the best part about being a designer.
07:51
We get to work with all these different types of people
07:53
from all walks of life.
07:55
And it's my favorite part.
07:56
- And that comes back to LA.
07:58
Obviously you wanted to work with a brand
08:00
that sort of could balance that,
08:01
but it's about practicality.
08:03
'Cause I mean, as you said,
08:04
your designs and some of your fashion
08:06
are not for everybody when you do it at the extreme part,
08:09
but you have to find the practicality too.
08:11
So there's that balance.
08:13
Can you talk about that?
08:14
'Cause I mean, you do one side for one thing,
08:16
but one side for the other thing.
08:17
Can you talk about approach?
08:19
Because you have to put yourself to thinking a certain way
08:22
and not be restricted either, if you know what I mean.
08:25
- Yeah, no, of course.
08:26
I mean, it's so important to be as kind of broad as you can.
08:30
Obviously not everyone can afford everything I make,
08:32
but there are things that we do do that they can afford
08:34
and hopefully they'll love.
08:35
And I mean, I don't know a single person
08:37
that's not an Olay customer.
08:40
I've never met anybody
08:41
who really doesn't have one Olay product.
08:43
So I think they, which is great.
08:44
You wanna go to brands that you feel support what we feel
08:48
and celebrate beauty.
08:49
And that's kind of why I wanted to partner with them.
08:53
I wanna celebrate beauty too.
08:54
- And my last question,
08:55
because the thing is beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
08:58
but there is a universal concept of beauty too.
09:00
So that's an interesting idea.
09:02
Can you talk about the concept?
09:04
I know it's a broad sort of abstract term,
09:06
but the aesthetic of beauty and what beauty means at times.
09:11
- I think now what it is, is like,
09:13
I think we are in that world now.
09:15
Like what beauty means to everybody is different,
09:18
but I think that that's okay.
09:19
There are no rules.
09:21
I don't think anybody's kind of deciding
09:22
what's beautiful anymore.
09:25
I mean, I'm sure there's lots of brands that might say so,
09:27
but I think the Olay team is celebrating
09:30
all the types of beauties that there are out there,
09:34
which I think is really the way we need to go.
09:36
