Massive Strike by Unionized Starbucks Employees Shakes the Coffee Giant on 'Red Cup' Promotional Day
  • 5 months ago
Thousands of unionized Starbucks employees participated in a one-day strike on "Red Cup Day," an annual promotion where Starbucks gives out reusable holiday cups. This was said to be the largest strike ever against Starbucks. The strike was organized by Starbucks Workers United, which has unionized about 360 Starbucks stores out of over 9,000 nationwide. The union said the strike was to protest ongoing issues like understaffing. Workers want Starbucks to turn off mobile ordering during busy promotions to reduce strain with understaffing. Some complained of making hundreds of drinks per hour with minimal staff.
