00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most chivalrous actions
00:09 made by anime characters in service to the greater good.
00:15 Number 20, Akira to the Rescue!
00:18 ZOM-100, Bucket List of the Dead.
00:21 For the sake of his future waifu, there is no enemy Akira won't face, even if his opponent
00:27 is far deadlier than the average zombie.
00:34 While fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming a superhero, Akira once again crosses paths
00:39 with his crush Shizuka while saving people from a horde of zombies.
00:44 Unfortunately, their situation only gets worse after trying to hide in a nearby aquarium
00:50 where they are confronted by one of the most terrifying undead imaginable, a zombie shark
00:56 with legs.
00:57 Just when it looks like Shizuka is about to meet an untimely demise, Akira defies her
01:02 expectations and faces down the nightmarish beast, risking his own life without any hesitation
01:15 and earning some brownie points in the process.
01:19 Number 19, from Executioner to Savior, Hell's Paradise.
01:24 There's nothing this Yamada clan executioner won't do to protect the person he admires
01:29 most.
01:30 After reaching the Gate of Horai and encountering the Tensei Mudan, Senta and his allies find
01:35 themselves on the receiving end of the Twisted Sage's ruthless assault.
01:40 While Senta manages to hold his own against the immortal being, a surprise attack from
01:50 Mudan forces him to take the blow for Yuzuriha, a prisoner who he was sworn to kill.
01:55 Even with his life force slowly draining away, Senta uses his remaining strength to inform
02:00 his allies of Mudan's true weakness, allowing them to claim victory.
02:11 While Senta's passing is indeed tragic, at least he got to spend his final moments
02:15 in the arms of his precious Yuzuriha.
02:20 Number 18, Tatsumi's Final Revolution, Akame ga Kill.
02:25 Tatsumi's made plenty of sacrifices to save people from the Empire's reign of tyranny.
02:31 However, his tragic fate in the anime ending makes his final sacrifice all the more heroic.
02:37 After the gullible Emperor unleashes the power of the Shiku Teiza, Tatsumi finds himself
02:42 on the ropes against the ultimate Teigu's fearsome power.
02:46 However, when the Emperor's actions only bring more harm to the people he vowed to
02:50 protect, Tatsumi pushes himself beyond his limits to stop the Emperor's rampage.
03:02 Eventually, Tatsumi unleashes his inner dragon and defeats the Emperor with the power of
03:07 his newly evolved Teigu.
03:09 Unfortunately, Tatsumi's victory is short-lived as he then uses his remaining strength to
03:15 prevent the Shiku Teiza from crushing innocent civilians, sacrificing his own life in the
03:21 process.
03:28 Number 17, Androids vs. Meteor, Inuyashiki.
03:33 Even heroes and villains will work together in the face of an overwhelming threat.
03:39 When a giant planet-killing meteor threatens Earth, Inuyashiki, being the kind and heroic
03:44 soul that he is, wastes no time in trying to stop it.
03:48 Unfortunately, despite packing enough firepower to level an army, Inuyashiki is unable to
03:54 stop it.
03:55 Just when all hope seems lost, Inuyashiki receives help from the most unlikely source,
04:01 his former enemy, Shishigami.
04:10 In an unusual act of altruism, Shishigami convinces Inuyashiki to activate his self-destruct
04:16 button in order to save the world.
04:28 While noble, Shishigami's sacrifice fails to completely obliterate the meteor, forcing
04:33 Inuyashiki to perform one final act of heroism.
04:44 Number 16, Altia sacrifices her time for others, Fairy Tail.
04:49 To atone for her sinful past, Altia willingly sacrificed her life to safeguard the future.
04:55 When an evil future version of the dragon slayer Rogue paves the way for a dragon invasion,
05:01 Fiore's strongest guilds unite to stop them.
05:04 When the bodies start piling up on the battlefield, Altia contemplates taking out Rogue's younger
05:09 self to end the bloodshed.
05:11 While she ultimately abandons this plan, this brief reversion to her villainous ways sends
05:16 Altia into despair.
05:23 With nothing left to lose, Altia unleashes the forbidden spell, Last Ages, sacrificing
05:29 all of her "time" to turn back the clock.
05:41 Although Altia only manages to reverse time by a single minute, it was more than enough
05:46 to save countless futures and pave the way for humanity's counterattack.
05:56 Number 15, Pushing Back the Axis, Mobile Suit Gundam Chars Counterattack.
06:03 When Chars attempts to save humanity, threaten the entire planet, his rival Amuro is determined
06:08 to stop him once and for all.
06:24 After Chars causes part of the giant meteor known as the Axis to hurtle towards Earth,
06:30 Amuro attempts to push it back using the power of his advanced Gundam.
06:41 Although Chars claims his actions are futile, Amuro's efforts attract the attention of
06:46 both the Earth Federation and Neo Zeon fleets, inspiring them to temporarily join forces
06:53 in pushing back the Axis.
07:02 After suffering some losses, Amuro's unique brainwaves amplify the power of his Psycho
07:07 Frame, which not only pushes the remaining pilots to safety, but also sends the Axis
07:12 back into space, putting an end to Chars' genocidal ambitions.
07:24 Number 14, A Gentleman's Final Stand, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood.
07:31 While travelling on a ship to America for his honeymoon, Jonathan Joestar's life is
07:35 tragically cut short by the return of his sworn enemy, Dio Brando.
07:46 Despite being reduced to a disembodied head, Dio catches Jonathan off guard and inflicts
07:51 a fatal blow while attempting to take his body for himself.
07:56 Refusing to let Dio have his way, Jonathan fights back and sabotages the doomed vessel
08:01 with the intent of blowing himself and Dio to kingdom come.
08:13 Even though his efforts to destroy Dio ultimately fail, Jonathan's sacrifice was far from
08:18 meaningless as he bought enough time for his wife, Erina, and an orphan to find shelter.
08:24 In the end, Jonathan died the same way he lived, as a true gentleman.
08:39 Number 13, Armin Burns for Humanity, Attack on Titan.
08:45 Even without Titan powers, Armin was willing to risk everything for humanity's future.
08:50 With the fate of his people pushing him forward, Armin challenges the colossal Titan head on
08:55 as part of a brilliant, yet insane scheme to take down their former comrade once and
09:00 for all.
09:08 As he puts his plan into motion, Armin soon finds himself on the receiving end of a constant
09:13 and powerful blast of the Titan's scalding steam.
09:25 Despite enduring unimaginable agony and having his body reduced to charcoal, Armin's desire
09:31 to fight for his friends and people allows him to power through Bertholdt's assault
09:35 through sheer force of will.
09:37 In the end, Armin fulfills his purpose in distracting him long enough for his friend
09:42 Eren to inflict the final blow.
09:53 Number 12, Kitan's Final Farewell, Gurren Lagann.
09:58 He may have lost his chance to be with his dream girl, but that didn't stop this gunman
10:02 pilot from going out like a total boss.
10:05 After Team Daiguren find themselves caught within the Anti-Spiral's death spiral machine,
10:11 they desperately try to break free before it's too late.
10:14 With little time remaining, Kitan steps up to make the ultimate sacrifice for his team.
10:23 Amidst the crushing pressure of the death spiral field, Kitan overcomes all odds and
10:28 unleashes his own spiral power to liberate his comrades.
10:36 In a final move that would make his former rival proud, Kitan goes beyond the impossible
10:41 for his friends before going out in a blaze of glory.
10:51 Number 11, Final Atonement, Dragon Ball Z.
10:55 As much as Vegeta values his Saiyan pride, he values his friends and family even more.
11:01 After his duel with Goku releases the powerful Majin Buu, Vegeta takes responsibility for
11:06 his actions by taking on the deadly Majin himself.
11:10 However, even after being enhanced by Babidi's dark magic, Vegeta's attacks barely even
11:16 slow down Buu.
11:21 After surviving a brutal beating and saying farewell to his son, Vegeta resorts to extreme
11:27 measures.
11:28 Using an all-or-nothing kamikaze attack to incinerate Buu.
11:37 Considering how he used to be, the fact that Vegeta would sacrifice himself for others,
11:42 even if it means a one-way ticket to hell, is a true testament of his moral growth.
11:54 Number 10, Broken Heart, Noble Spirit.
11:57 The Seven Deadly Sins.
11:59 Poor, poor Jericho.
12:01 It's not hard to see why she would fall for the Fox's sin of greed.
12:05 After all, Ban isn't only quite the looker, but has an overall suave-ness that would melt
12:09 the hearts of any maiden.
12:11 But unfortunately for her, he's only ever had eyes for Elaine.
12:22 It's painful to watch, yet she didn't think twice about saving the pair of them when the
12:27 Commandment showed up to murder them.
12:32 Unable to move their bodies, Jericho carries the two lovers despite the oncoming attacks,
12:38 refusing to ditch them and run.
12:39 You're a true knight, Jericho.
12:51 Number 9, Eye for an Eye, Megalo Box.
12:54 Coach Ganbu has never stood at the pinnacle of decency.
12:58 After all, he used to make a living by staging rigged underground boxing fights.
13:02 However, as both he and Joe made their way towards Megalonia, he finds himself torn between
13:09 paying off what he owes to a fearsome gangster, and helping his protégé take the championship.
13:20 During a critical moment, Ganbu makes his choice by cutting out his own eye in order
13:26 to square his debt.
13:35 He may not have gotten to see Joe land that winning punch, but it's fair to say he was
13:39 the one who laid the foundation.
13:46 Number 8, A Chef's Chivalry, Food Wars.
13:50 For the most part, Soma is a pretty chill guy who ignores all insults towards himself,
13:56 and prefers to let his cooking do the talking.
13:58 However, when his friend Megumi is humiliated by alumni Shinomiya due to unfair circumstances,
14:05 Soma isn't going to let that fly.
14:14 With her expulsion imminent, the chef gloves come off, and Soma challenges him to a shokugei
14:20 duel.
14:29 Channeling his inner Gordon Ramsay, Soma's overwhelming determination to save his classmates
14:35 from an unwanted punishment is nothing short of epic.
14:45 Number 7, Defending Noelle, Black Clover.
14:49 Asta is pretty used to mages giving him crap about his lack of magic, but don't think
14:54 for one second you can talk down to one of his friends without earning a demon sword
14:59 to the face.
15:00 After Noelle's own vile family taunts and assaults her, Asta pretty much declares war
15:05 on the whole Silver lineage, lashing out with pure ferocity.
15:15 Needless to say, watching him wipe the smug look off their royal faces is an absolute
15:20 delight to behold.
15:22 Anything for one of modern anime's best tsunderes.
15:33 Number 6, The Guts To Never Give Up, Naruto Franchise.
15:38 No matter what you think of the numerous overpowered skills that this ninja developed during Shiburen,
15:43 there's no denying the one trait that's remained consistent throughout Naruto's
15:47 character growth is his unwillingness to ever back down.
16:05 With Kabuto going in for the killing blow against Tsunade, Naruto throws himself to
16:10 intercept the strike, all before showing the results of his training by releasing the first
16:15 ever Rezengan.
16:21 Even when he was little, he sure knew how to take a punch.
16:29 Number 5, Execution Interruption, Bleach.
16:33 The mad dash to rescue Rukia from her unjustified death sentence made up the bulk of what many
16:39 believed to be this anime's highlights, all of which culminated in this spectacular
16:44 showdown.
16:49 Just as Rukia is about to be turned to ashes, Ichigo arrives on the scene at the last second,
16:55 thwarting her execution.
17:04 The substitute Shinigami then proceeds to wreck the Gote 13 with his overwhelming strength,
17:10 all before clashing blades with Captain Flower Power himself, Byakuya.
17:15 It's a brilliant payoff to the meticulous build-up and care that went into this iconic
17:19 arc.
17:25 Number 4, Saitama vs. Meteor, One Punch Man.
17:29 As the singular most powerful being to ever grace the medium, Saitama has managed to knock
17:34 down a whole slew of villains, monsters and world-enders with minimal effort.
17:40 However, probably the best example of Saitama acting like a hero would be when he single-handedly
17:45 punched his way through an incoming meteor.
17:56 Leaping into the sky like a bullet, watching Saitama destroy the approaching cataclysm
18:01 is like something straight out of the Silver Age of comics.
18:05 Even if no one thanked him, it just further proves that beneath the dopey exterior lies
18:10 the heart of a true hero.
18:16 Number 3, The Flag, One Piece.
18:19 We all know that Luffy wants to be the king of pirates, living for adventures with his
18:23 crew and occasionally kicking the crap out of swashbuckling scumbags.
18:30 However, it was in this scene that we saw just how much the Straw Hat Captain respected
18:36 piracy in all its aspects.
18:44 When the wicked Wapol tried to blow up the flag belonging to Chopper's foster father,
18:50 Luffy stood his ground and took on the explosion full force, keeping the flag safe while declaring
18:56 its immortal importance.
19:06 Number 2, Goodbye, One For All, My Hero Academia.
19:10 Not only is this clash between the symbol of peace and his nemesis one of the most epic
19:15 battles in recent memory, but it also perfectly encapsulates everything endearing about All
19:20 Might.
19:26 With his quirk waning in the face of all for one's mesh of stolen superpowers, all he
19:31 can do is push himself beyond his last limits in order to finally bring an end to his most
19:36 hated enemy.
19:46 This not only results in him unleashing the United States of Smash, but also signals the
19:51 end of his time as the world's greatest hero, losing the last of his strength to pass
19:56 on a message to his young successor.
20:19 Number 1, Lelouch's Sacrifice, Code Geass, Lelouch of the Rebellion.
20:24 All this member of the Britannian royal family had ever wanted was to make a change.
20:29 As the masked vigilante Zero, Lelouch certainly came close, but only when he became the Emperor
20:35 of Britannia was he able to achieve his dream.
20:44 Whatever mistakes he made along the way, he still managed to succeed in uniting the world
20:49 through the Zero Requiem, wherein he made himself a figure that everyone could despise.
21:02 As prime target number one, Lelouch made his friend Suzaku don the mantle of Zero and end
21:08 his life, finally bringing peace to the world.
