Shane Navin's Fatal Crash @ Targa Tasmania 2021 (Aftermath)

Three racers were killed in two separate accidents that happened during the 2021 Targa Tasmania, scheduled to be held from 19 to 24 April 2021.

The first fatal accident happened on Friday, 23 April 2021, during the "Mount Arrowsmith" special stage, between Queenstown and Derwent Bridge. About 11h00 o'clock, the red 1979 Mazda RX-7 #602 driven by Shane Navin, 68, went out of control while entering a right-hand bend and rolled into a culvert, landing onto its roof. Navin was killed instantly; his co-driver Glenn Evans was unharmed.

Despite the fatality, the rally was not stopped and the following day it was marred by a second fatal accident, when Leigh Mundy and Dennis Neagle were killed in a crash, shortly after the start of the Cygnet special stage.

Shane Navin was from the state of New South Wales, Australia. A veteran Targa racer, he was survived by his wife, Jennifer; his son, Ashley and his daughter, Kelsie. His death became the third involving a competitor, in 29-year history of the Targa Tasmania: in 1996 co-driver Ian Johnston was killed during Riana special stage and driver John Mansell crashed fatally during the 2013 edition.
