Canada Bans WeChat and on Government Devices Over Cybersecurity Worries
  • 6 months ago
Canada has banned the Chinese super-app WeChat and antivirus programs from Kaspersky Lab on official government devices due to cybersecurity concerns. The ban is due to the apps having access to a significant amount of data on mobile devices, although there is no evidence of government information being compromised. This comes after the Canadian government previously banned TikTok from government-issued mobile devices for similar reasons. Concerns have been raised regarding WeChat and TikTok potentially handing over user data to the Chinese government.
