00:03 Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins, who has been visiting flooded homes and helped to set up

00:08 a flood appeal for victims, says more needs to be done to help the affected families now

00:14 Mr Perkins has visited various areas across Chesterfield after Storm Babette left parts

00:18 of the town underwater.

00:20 He spoke to the Environment Agency and arranged for water to be pumped out of Tapton Terrace,

00:24 where an elderly woman was tragically found dead following the flood.

00:28 Mr Perkins said "It's heartbreaking that a woman in her 80s died during the flooding.

00:33 There must be a full investigation into this tragedy, including whether any more can be

00:36 done to prevent flooding in this area again.

00:39 People are very upset because they've been flooded again.

00:42 The flood remediation efforts that were put in place after the 2007 floods have not really

00:47 worked.

00:48 The River Rother remediation scheme may have delayed it a bit, but it didn't prevent

00:52 the flood."

00:53 He added "I will ask the government and the council if they can provide funds for

00:57 people who have been flooded.

00:58 In 2007 all flood victims received a payment.

01:02 Secondly, I will be asking the government to provide support for the council who now

01:06 have extra costs that they did not have before.

01:09 And finally, I will be asking for an investigation to assess why people have been flooded again

01:13 and what can be done to protect Chesterfield from floods in the future."

01:19 A campaigner who is opposed to a massive housing development in Derbyshire is calling for a

01:24 judicial review into the plans unless the council planners refuse to reject the scheme.

01:29 Bolsover District Council is considering Waystone Ltd's planning application for the Clown

01:33 Garden Village housing scheme, which would see 1,800 properties as well as community

01:38 and commercial facilities built between Clown and Balbora.

01:43 Many residents have raised concerns about the development's impact on highways and

01:46 existing services, the loss of countryside and wildlife, as well as fears about drainage,

01:51 flooding and overcrowding.

01:54 Now Clown Garden Village Action Group campaigner Don Webb has written to the council demanding

01:59 a judicial review.

02:00 Mr Webb claims that when the original planning application was submitted in 2017 it did not

02:06 match the council's local plan and Greenbeltland should not have later been released to allow

02:10 development.
