Colin Waters Fatal Crash @ Sankt Wendel 1963 (Aftermath)

American rider Colin Waters suffered a bad accident during the 500 cm3 race which was included in the program of the 1963 Sankt Wendel Volksfest-Rennen, held on the street course of Sankt Wendel, Saarland, West Germany, on Sunday, 12 May 1963. Waters lost control of his #23 Norton motorcycle and crashed in the fast right-hander before the start/finish line.

Colin Waters was critically injured in the crash. He never recovered and succumbed to his injuries ten days later in a hospital in Homburg, on Wednesday, 22 May 1963. Despite several sources indicated Colin Waters to be a Canadian, he was an United States citizen.

This was reported to be the only fatal accident in the history of the old 3.788-kilometer Sankt Wendeler Stadtkurs, which was used between 1951 and 1964. It hosted the Preis des Saarlandes between 1953 and its final year of utilization. Another 2.700-kilometer street course was laid out in the streets of Sankt Wendel for motorcycle racing between 1983 and 1992. The two fatal accidents of Gerold Fischer in 1990, and Klaus Liegibel in 1992, meant the end of the Sankt Wendel road races, which were considered not safe anymore.
