EU awards Sakharov human rights prize to Mahsa Amini

The European Parliament grants the Sakharov Prize to Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurdish woman whose death in Iranian custody inspired the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' movement. "Sept. 16, 2022 is a historic date, and the tragic murder of Jina Mahsa Amini, 22, was a turning point," says European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
