Pro-Palestine protests turn ugly as supporters throw bottles and flares at police in Trafalgar Square while thousands more march in Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and Glasgow

Crowds calling for Israel 'stop bombing Gaza' have taken to the streets of London, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle today as police warned that anyone showing support for Hamas could face arrest. The Met Police said they have deployed more than 1,000 officers to police the London demonstration amid fears of clashes. Shocking aerial footage (centre) shows Pro-Palestine supporters becoming extremely hostile towards police and throwing several objects and pouring water over dozens of officers at Trafalgar Square in the heart of the capital. The London protest started at Portland Place at around 12pm and was due to finish at Whitehall at 3pm. However, huge swathes of protesters carried on marching to nearby Trafalgar Square, where tempers flared as police appeared to arrest a man up against the iconic plinth. One activist launched a firework towards officers.
