Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Deputy Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post, and here's a look at
00:05
what's coming up in the week ahead.
00:07
So, from Thursday to Sunday, best-selling authors will descend on Harrogate to share
00:12
stories for this year's Raworth's Harrogate Literature Festival. The likes of Victoria
00:18
Hislop over there, introducing her new novel. There'll be a talk from a celebrated royal
00:24
correspondent Robert Hardman, who will look at Queen Elizabeth II's reign and the transition
00:32
then to King Charles. England cricketer and broadcaster Monty Panniser is going to be
00:39
recounting stories from his sporting career, and also husband and wife pair Carrie and
00:45
David Grant are telling the tale of their extraordinary family, which is explored in
00:50
their new book. Elsewhere, the National Infrastructure Commission is set to publish its latest report
00:59
on Wednesday, and that's analysing the UK's long-term economic infrastructure needs. The
01:05
latest version, which is published every five years, is expected to focus on reaching net
01:12
zero targets, reducing environmental impacts and adapting to a changing climate, as well
01:19
as supporting the levelling-up agenda. It will be the second report by the Commission
01:24
looking at future priorities for the UK, and it will include costed recommendations to
01:30
the government on policy and funding, and aims to ensure the country is ready to face
01:34
the demands and opportunities over the next 30 years.
01:40
Meanwhile, the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee will consider the merits
01:44
of a ban on bully dogs in an evidence session on Wednesday. Following a spate of attacks
01:51
involving the breed, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced last month that a ban would
01:55
be brought into law by the end of the year. This session will be a one-off, and it will
02:01
feed into the Committee's wider current inquiry on pet welfare and abuse, which so far has
02:06
seen its MPs hear from specialists in animal rescue, retail, breeding and local government.
02:13
And finally, a weekend of steampunk Halloween activity is set to take place in Hull. The
02:19
programme for the Halloween event, which is supported by Hull BID, includes a market,
02:25
dancing, exhibitions, talks and tours and a parade, and it's all inspired by Victorian
02:30
fashions and engineering, with lots of costumes to keep an eye out there over the weekend
02:38
as well.
