Hello, I'm Gill Buchanan, the editor of the Falkirk Herald and I'm here to tell you about
00:04
some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition which is on sale now.
00:10
Our lead story this week tells of a larbert couple who lost one of their twin daughters
00:14
earlier this year. Leila was only 15 months old. Now dad Craig Turnbull, cheered on by
00:21
wife Kimberly and daughter Sophia, will be running the Loch Ness Marathon at the weekend
00:25
to raise money for Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow which provided them with support for
00:31
over a year when Leila was in hospital. Also having a busy weekend, our mother and son
00:37
Alira and Ewan Brown from Larbert, who are heading to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro
00:43
in aid of the Scott Martin Foundation. At a meeting this week Falkirk councillors agreed
00:48
the annual fireworks display should go ahead in Calander Park, despite the £10,000 cost
00:54
at a time when the council is facing financial constraints.
00:57
We have the heartwarming story of little Rudy Bell who has spent a considerable amount of
01:02
time in hospital this year, both as an inpatient and outpatient. Instead of gifts for his fourth
01:09
birthday last month, he asked for cash donations for Glasgow Children's Hospital charity and
01:14
raised over £1,500. We have full coverage of the Reading Pit disaster centenary and
01:21
the dedication of the new memorial. Also photographs from two events at Keneal Estate last weekend
01:27
and the results from St Mungo's High School's annual prize giving.
01:31
The story in Ean's Scott reflects on the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715 and its significance
01:37
for Falkirk. And the sport we hear how ascending off in the Shires 1-0 home defeat to Huntley
01:44
in the Scottish Cup left the young player inconsolable. All these stories and lots more
01:50
can be found in our print edition which is on sale now and also online at www.falkirkherald.co.uk.
