03:55 Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Monday that Vietnam has expressed interest
04:03 in a trade deal with Mercosur, bloc of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay,
04:08 adding he will bring the topic up for discussion with those countries.
04:13 Lula, who is currently chairing the group, said he wants to bring Mercosur members closer
04:18 to Asian countries and highlighted there is a room for trade with Vietnam to grow
04:23 as he welcomed Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Brasilia.
04:27 The move comes as the Mercosur bloc tries to finalize a long-awaited trade deal
04:32 with the European Union which the leftist leader has been pushing
04:35 to be concluded by the end of this year.
04:37 Mercosur and the EU reached an agreement in 2019 after two decades of negotiation
04:43 that has been on hold due to environmental concerns.
04:47 We also discussed Vietnam's interest in concluding a trade agreement with Mercosur.
04:57 I'm going to raise the issue with our Mercosur partners taking advantage of the Brazilian presidency.
05:04 I'm sure it's possible to move forward.
05:09 It's in our interest to bring Mercosur closer to Asia.
05:13 The countries of Southeast Asia account for almost 6.5% of the world's GDP
05:21 in purchasing power parity.
05:24 Brazilian exports to all Southeast Asian countries already amount to half of what we export to the EU.

06:29 Welcome back.
06:43 Social movements gathered in front of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington, United States,
06:48 to denounce the terrorist attack that took place on the afternoon of September 24.
06:54 Several organizations have gathered at the Cuban embassy in Washington after the terrorist attacks last Sunday.
07:01 The foreign minister of Venezuela and the representative of Mexico also sent a communique
07:05 expressing their solidarity with the Cuban highland and condemning the attack.
07:10 Finally, the Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez said that there have been no casualties after the attack
07:17 and that the aggression was being investigated.
07:23 We're here today at the Cuban embassy in support of the Cuban people.
07:27 There was an attack on the embassy last night.
07:29 My name is Brianna. I'm with the Diaspora Apalante Collective, a group of Puerto Ricans in the diaspora,
07:33 fighting for the liberation of Puerto Rico.
07:35 But we also understand that Cuban people and Puerto Rican people have a history of solidarity and support.
07:39 We want to maintain that and fight for both of our countries' liberation and sovereignty.
07:45 In this context, the member-state of the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of America
07:50 issued a communique condemning the terrorist attack against a diplomatic mission of the Republic of Cuba in the United States.
07:57 The attack took place on September 24, 2023.
08:01 The communique urges compliance with international law and international conventions
08:06 and supports the measures taken by the government of Cuba in response to this aggression.
08:11 Furthermore, it is stressed that Cuba should not be included in the list of countries
08:16 that allegedly sponsor international terrorism when it is the victim of these attacks.
08:27 Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey on Monday defied federal corruption allegations
08:33 and the erosion of diplomatic support in his home states by claiming that the cash found in his home
08:39 came from his savings account and was intended for emergencies.
08:43 Before the press and without answering questions, Menendez said he believed he would be exonerated
08:49 and that prosecutors sometimes get it wrong.
08:52 The Democratic senator did not address whether he would run for re-election next year.
08:57 He and his wife, Nari Menendez, are accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold,
09:04 and a lot of furica from three New Jersey businessmen for selling carob bags.
09:09 According to the indictment, Menendez used his influence to meddle in three criminal cases
09:15 and lobbied U.S. agricultural regulators to protect a partner's business interests.
09:20 He used his position as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee to influence U.S. policy in Egypt.
09:31 I recognize this will be the biggest fight yet, but as I have stated throughout this whole process,
09:38 I firmly believe that when all the facts are presented, not only will I be exonerated,
09:44 but I still will be the New Jersey's senior senator.
09:47 The great parliament approved labor reform promoted by the conservative government of Kiriakos Mitsotakis,
09:54 which imposes, among other measures, working hours of up to 13 hours.
09:59 After a 24-hour general strike and several immobilizations in the country,
10:04 the parliament approved a reform that extends the work week to six days and up to 13 hours a day,
10:11 and will also allow companies to vary the working hours to adapt them to the company's production needs.
10:17 The approval of these reforms also stipulates that an employee can be dismissed
10:22 in the first year of employment without prior notice and any remuneration.
10:26 Finally, this new rule allows workers to voluntarily hold a second job for a maximum of five hours a day,
10:33 alongside the main activity of eight hours a day, which would add to 13 hours a day.
10:44 Hungarian Minister Bétho Nárvány on Monday said that his country was deceived
10:49 by the European Union's plan to allow Ukrainian grain to transit across Hungary
10:53 after shipments across the Black Sea were hindered by the ongoing conflict.
10:58 Addressed in the opening autumn session of Hungary's parliament,
11:02 Orbán said that Hungary had opened a solidarity corridor across its territory
11:07 to allow Ukrainian grain to be transported to countries in Africa.
11:11 By that, those shipments had been sold in Hungary for lower prices, especially on domestic producers.
11:17 Orbán's comments came days after Ukraine filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization
11:23 against Hungary, Poland and Slovakia for banning imports of Ukrainian farm products.
11:33 The Business Forum of Africa discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Africa.
11:40 Among the participants of the Business Forum were representatives of the business community
11:45 from more than a dozen African countries and Russia.
11:48 Let's see more details in the following report of T-Bricks reporter Alexey Pimenov.
11:53 The potential of the African market, the peculiarities of working on the continent,
11:57 from logistics to state support and other topics were discussed by participants
12:01 in the Open Africa Business Forum. It took place in Moscow.
12:06 It is a continuation of the second Russian-African summit
12:09 where together with the partners from the African continent,
12:12 we discussed a pool of problems that exist in cooperation and development of trade
12:16 and economic cooperation between Russia and Africa.
12:19 We are identifying specific problems and we will work together with our entrepreneurs
12:23 to solve these problems in order to bring Africa closer.
12:28 More than 100 participants, representatives of the business community
12:31 from more than a dozen African countries and of course Russia.
12:35 The focus is on the creation of joint ventures in mining, processing
12:39 and other sectors of the economy, food security.
12:44 Holding such a forum is what is needed for the rapid development of cooperation with Russia
12:49 in the economic sphere for the benefit of both the inhabitants of Africa and the Russians themselves.
12:57 Mixed format, in person and via video link, several thematic sessions,
13:02 on the agenda, investment trade and industrial organization.
13:06 It is generally believed that one should always come to Africa with investments,
13:11 but today I have learned once again that coming to Africa with technology,
13:16 coming and developing production locally is probably one of the most direct ways
13:22 to open Africa as a market.
13:24 One of the prerequisites for this, the availability of financing for projects,
13:28 reliable mutual payment systems, a number of participants are convinced
13:32 that a joint bank can solve such problems.
13:35 Today, Africa definitely needs a bank with Russian participation in order
13:40 to develop major infrastructure projects.
13:43 Our colleagues and I are now looking at several banks for cooperation.
13:48 I think that such a bank could emerge.
13:51 According to experts, priority infrastructure projects includes the construction
13:55 and development of ports and improving the efficiency of logistics.
13:59 Cooperation with Africa is a task of national importance, they said at the meeting.
14:03 Russia would create an accelerator to support companies entering the African market.
14:08 First of all, high tech companies, for example, from the IT sector.
14:13 Because it is quickest for them to enter, they do not need to localize,
14:17 they just need to find a distributor, a dealer.
14:20 The most important task of an accelerator is to help adapt the product,
14:25 that is, to have expert judgment and when they have adapted the products to help
14:30 with communication channels and building clear distributors, dealers and so on.
14:35 The Institute of Business Ambassadors also helps to build communications.
14:39 It is being set up by the public organization Business Russia.
14:42 It became the organizer of the forum.
14:45 It organizes such meetings, seminars and webinars with participants
14:49 from African countries on a regular basis.
14:52 We have a second show break coming up, but before we invite you to visit Adidas Channel

15:34 >> Welcome back.
15:35 The Libyan Attorney General's Office announced Monday the arrest of aid officials
15:40 and foreign officials as part of the investigation taking place into the collapse
15:45 of the Guadalnerma and Abu Mansur dams following torrential rains earlier this month.
15:50 Both dams collapsed on September 11 amid the passage of Storm Daniel,
15:55 flooding a quarter of the city of Nerda, destroying entire neighborhoods
15:59 and sweeping thousands of people into the sea.
16:02 The deaths are ranging from more than 4,000 to more than 11,000 people according
16:08 to various government officials and aid agencies, while numbers of life bodies remain
16:13 under the rubble or missing in Mediterranean waters.
16:17 A statement from the Attorney General's Office posted on Facebook explains that seven officials
16:22 and former officials of the Water Resources Authority and the Dams Management Authority
16:27 were questioned on Sunday and accused for mismanagement and negligence
16:31 that contributed to the collapse of the dams.
16:35 In Libya, emergency teams recovered 23 more bodies in Derna as a result
16:44 of the storm that occurred last September 11th.
16:47 >> Regarding today, the number of bodies that have been recovered in Leri is 23 bodies
16:54 in the city of Derna, bringing the total number
16:57 to 3,868 documented cases with the Ministry of Health.
17:02 >> In South Africa, authorities said that heavy rains caused damage
17:07 in the southern region of Western Carp.
17:10 Local government representative for Environmental Affairs
17:12 and Development Planning, Anton Redel, reported that one person was swept away
17:17 as a result of the waters overflowing.
17:20 The country's Meteorological Service issued a 11-night warning announcing that the impact
17:25 of the inclement weather was suspected to be severe.
17:29 From a material standpoint, officials are currently most concerned about major road closure
17:34 which are expected to last for at least the next 12 hours.
17:39 Disaster management teams are also searching for three people reported missing
17:43 in the different areas affected by the rains.
17:46 Mali's ruling in June 10 announced a delay to a presidential election scheduled for February
17:56 that was aimed at returning civilian leaders to power.
18:00 The junta's spokesman, Abdullahi Emayga, said in a press statement on Monday
18:05 that the presidential election, initially scheduled for a first run on Sunday,
18:09 February 4th, 2024, and a second round two weeks later,
18:14 will be slightly postponed due to technical reasons.
18:17 The government official mentioned the adoption of a new constitution this year and the review
18:22 of the electoral lists as the main reasons for the change.
18:27 The note also said that the new dates for the elections will be announced later.
18:32 Since Mali back-to-back protests in 2020 and 2021, West Africa has seen serious military coups,
18:38 including Burkina Faso, Niger, and Guinea.
18:41 In each case, the militaries have said they were carrying out transitions
18:45 before returning to the constitutional order.
18:48 The transitional government informs the public that it has decided to organize exclusively
18:58 the presidential election to emerge from the transition.
19:02 The other elections will certainly be the subject of another calendar,
19:09 which will be established by the new authorities under the directives of the new President of the Republic.
19:14 However, the dates of the presidential election, initially scheduled for Sunday, February 4th, 2024,
19:24 the first round, and Sunday, February 18th, 2024, the second round,
19:29 possibly will be slightly postponed for technical reasons.
19:33 We have come to the end of this brief.
